So I loved watching the vod. And I believe there are a couple reasons why game developers use flickering lights 1. Tension playing into fear of the dark and losing your sense of sight. 2. In cinema Stanley Kubrick discussed using flashing lights and red/blue strobe in his movies because it induces pupil dilation which can trigger flight or fight response. 3. Developers can trigger loading screens and jump scares. That new game "mouthwash" uses it for transitioning chapters super effectively. 4. Light flickering generates a feeling of confusion, frustration, nausea, and anxiety
