One of my favorite things about this game is that you can skip straight to Day 3 from the very start of the game by accessing Dylan's FLST using a static password. This was something I helped to discover and it actually used to softlock you if you didn't complete Case 1 to unlock Teentopia, though you could quickly do that while waiting to be kicked out. Jay Tholen saw this, thought the skip was really cool and instead just fixed the missing Teentopia flag.
I played this years ago when it came out. The Chowder Man is always what stuck with me the most, trying so desperately to recapture his glory days, even showing signs of that same desperation in the late 80’s/early 90’s. And that chase for rekindled fame killed a friend and cost his leg. His goofy ass was also so damn tragic.
Damn watching Thor play this game for a few hours barely using the zones, not using bookmarks and doing pretty good was WILD
If you find enough evidence on Zane, you actually ban him, preventing him from dying in the Mindcrash. This is canon, since Slayers X was started by him around the mindcrash, then touched up and packaged and released in modern day.
Hynospace outlaw has got to be one of my favorite games of all time, can't wait for dreamsettler to come out so I can experience it all over again
"We haven't found anything that breaks the law" closes axxelerator popup BWLLLLLLLL
3:30:00 Oh yea, i remember wiggling the mouse. Old Windows versions had a "bug" in them and most stuff was event driven. For performance reasons it put programs into sleep or background to let other programs do their things, this caused slowdowns related to I/O, and moving your mouse over the program caused user input that woke the program up immediately to handle the I/O rather then waiting for the sleep to finish. Moving the mouse could speed things up as much as 4 times. Im guessing the game is simulating that.
I've never seen someone get so badly infected by the Butts virus and it had me crying.
My buddy and I talk about missing the wild west of the internet. The OG internet was true freedom, if you didn't like it you moved on to a place you did like. Forums were a beautiful place.
This feels like Thor's answer to 'Astrophysicist plays Outer Wilds'
Played through Hypnospace Outlaw around a year ago at this point. I still think about it as doing the "futzing around with a fake OS and internet" perfectly. This and Digital: A Love Story are up there as some great examples of the concept. Can't wait for Dreamsettler!
The story of this game got wild in a way I absolutely was not expecting
After I played Outer Wilds, I pushed my brother to play it because of my love for it and he streamed it for me. He then pushed me to play this game and I streamed playing it for him and yea. I definitely didn't forsee how deep this game was going to be. Though I also grew up with 90s internet so it also had the nostalgia factor as well. lol
Thor the fact that you went like the whole game without once going into safe mode to decrypt those broken pages is amazing lol btw this game got a new update in march '24 and you can actually save a few of the users by getting them banned like you did with sherri and it changes the y2k news cinematic
The weird messages from viewers (starting at 6:44:30 and continuing throughout the next part of the stream) about the "glitchiness" in this part of the game (the Y2K update section) being adamantly interpreted by a few viewers as actual real life glitches and performance issues with the game, is just so baffling to me. You would think a streamer like Thor would attract the sort of viewers who have a decent amount of media literacy when it comes to video games, and a certain familiarity with what actual video game glitches and bugs look like. Since you know, the "glitches" depicted in Hypnospace Outlaw are so obviously a part of the game narrative, and bears a healthy coating of theatrical embellishment. I just... idk, it's just so weird to me that some people seemingly just refused to pick up on that.
Not enough people know about this game. Thanks for playing it.
the homestuck reference gave me whiplash at 4:08:19
screw that dude telling you to search re3koning's page early, i don't get people joining just to backseat and post spoilers, you had seen the name on the freelands but you had no reason to go after it until after you did some more stuff edit: that also made you sequence break and skip M1nx, god dammit
These are the type of games that a great streamer like yourself really can help show how beautiful they are. This was hilarious. “ I don’t wanna check my enforcer mail I’m busy putting kids in jail “ 💀. Happy belated 🎉🎉
