As a former designer on the F1 franchise (2010-2016), thanks for the trip down memory lane. We had a small, tight knit, and dedicated team back then, each of us a fan of Formula 1, who put in hours and hours to try and make the best games that we could. Admittedly we got some things wrong, but it seems we also got a hell of a lot right. It's heartwarming to hear that games my teammates, many of whom are still amongst my favourite people in the world, and I helped create are actually loved by so many people. Gonna share this with them as soon as I get chance. :-)
I love how this guy can talk me an entire hour about a franchise that I never played before and still be entertaining, reminds me of Ahoy
26:22 And unfortunately, as I recently found out, F1 2012 and 2014 through 2019 are no longer available for purchase as of March. An entire generation of F1 games gone snap just like that. Looks like 2020's still alive and well, but you might wanna consider buying it soon before the inevitable happens...
My dad got me F1 2010 for my birthday when I was around 9 or 10, hearing the start up music and transition at 10:24 gave me goosebumps. I still occasionally go back to it and is definitely regarded as a game way ahead of its time.
Another brilliant video. I haven't played any racing games in a long time and this has gotten me in the mood again 👀
Me: I'll never play a racing game, just not my kinda thing. Also me: sits quietly listening to Raycevick talk about racing games for hours.
As someone who both loves this series, and has had the honour of working on the F1 team at codies, this was a great video. Thank you.
Racevick is probably my favorite subsection of Raycevick content, aside from deep dives into terrible/weird/bizarre/obscure shooter games.
7:16 that was actually completely legal at the time, you were allowed to overtake before the pit entry line. Vettel did it at China once iirc.
7:50 - Black flagged. 7:53 - "FOR WHAT???" oh such a funny clip to include there.
I still own a signed copy of F1 Race Stars from the devs after winning a Time Trial Demo competition round Germany. So good
The use of Ace Combat 7's music at 51:55 is neat. That said, do you have plans to make videos about Ace Combat? Would like to hear your thoughts about it.
Imagine an F1 game that is what I would call a "driver simulator", and not just a sim(cade) racing game. You start at an older season like 2000 and progress all the way up to 2020. The cars change, the teams change, the drivers change, the tracks change, all according to what happened in real life. Fully replicating what it means to actually be an F1 driver. I'd sell my right arm for that kind of game.
"There was no unique circuits, rules or features or most notably....style, unlike" (F1 2010 soundtrack plays) Instant goosebumps! F1 2010 was my re introduction to formula 1 games since f1 2002. Loved every minute of it including that soundtrack!"
51:30 "Where is Palmer?" "Lucas, Palmer has retired." "KARMA."
Ooo I like the code masters games, excited to see your reviews.
Even worse on breaking point in F1 2021, They end it right as you'd move into the higher tier team, like from Haas to Ferrari (One example). They easily could of continued the story mode with a Hamilton-Verstappen type rivalry as they set it up, but leave it raw and uncooked
It really blows my mind that someone of your quality would look at this game series like this in so much detail. Thank you for making this!
Amazing video. Danny's F1 podcast is some of my favorite racing content, and your channel is some of my favorite video game content. Incredible collab.
