Such a haunting song. Imagine a column of ghostly soldiers chanting this while marching over an old battlefield, reminiscing over their condemned fate, of never again seeing their homeland.

@blackdragons8011

You have to remember that WW1 soldiers are called "The lost generation". Now it's even more depressing.

@Danisachan

It's even sadder if you understand that "verloren" does not only mean "lost" and "losing" (like in the English language too) but also implements a sense of doom, of hopelessness, that there is no way out, in the German language. When they sing "Wir sind verloren" they basically sing "We have no hope for a tomorrow for us", we "are forsaken, we are doomed". To imagine this as a marching song just tears at your heart.
Edit: You get an even more comprehensive understanding of this, if you listen to the full song, with all the lyrics (found here on yt). This version here is barely even an excerpt)

@beardlessodin945

WWII Germans: "All of our war songs are about beautiful girls and kissing forester's daughters!"
WWI Germans: "Cute..."

When the French kids ball lands in your front garden.

@pedrojuan8050

Songs now : "We drink, we talk, and we got in love or something, hypercars, alone in my room, idk"

Songs in the 1910's :
Hans : "We might not come home today Kameraden"
Otto : "I know"
Karl : "We know. Let's storm the enemy trench!"

@wingedhussar8552

Impressive that a song could be so rousing with so few lyrics.

@anbthree786

Germans have both a beautiful yet harshly realistic way of telling stories such as fairytales and this it’s just like straight to the point

@tsesuutromaria2459

The problem with this music is that it is too short

@odtoast1361

germany really had the best marches. No wonder their soldiers were motivated.

@Bcaa30

Wo sind meine stolzen deutschen? 😢🇩🇪

@adamrastakhan6459

@lonelyshadow4059

GOD DAMN I CANT QUIT GERMAN SONGS, THEY ARE SOOO GOOD

@الإخلاصزينةالمرء

I read in one of books that when the time of signing the Treaty of Versailles that one of the members (I don't know which country) said when he saw the terms of surrender: "The Germans can be your best friend, but if you decide to treat them as an enemy, I promise they will not disappoint you."

@ulcam64

One of my great grandfathers only positive memories during ww2 was saving a big group of German soldiers. They were captured and about to be executed when he stepped in and stopped it. That’s the only ww2 story he could ever tell without zoning out or looking/feeling guilty. He passed July 4th 2015 of all days. Miss that man

Appreciate all the extra comments and storys. Ive read them all. Lets keep our great grandfathers memories alive.

Peace from France. These young men from both of our countries did not deserve to die in such a horrible war.
