But doesnt Google translate and also google lens do this already.  I use them both on my phone with great success so not sure of the need to buy a dedicated hardware translator.

It’s listed as Taiwanese Mandarin I guess just for simplicity’s sake. I’d be surprised if they translated to actual Taiwanese Hokkien. The history is a bit complicated, but Hokkien is a big branch of Chinese dialect that covers Taiwan and the nearing mainland China regions. Mandarin had been set to be the standardized national language (but more like national pronunciation) before the Chinese civil war, and it has remained to be the main language on TV in Mainland China and Taiwan. You would be understood perfectly with Mandarin on the street of Taiwan, but you would surprise people if you or that hand-held machine suddenly speaks Hokkien.
