Doubt this ever happened but the Indians won 91 games and Oakland won 102 games in 2001. Both bowed out in the Divisional Series, which made them pretty much even. They did have 3 times as much payroll, but I think they would have given a fellow GM more respect.

While I certainly enjoyed this scene, in reality, there is no way in hell that a GM of one MLB team is gonna say back-handed insulting remarks directly to the face of the GM of an opposing team... which is exactly what Mark Shapiro did in this scene by referencing 'within your price range' not once, but twice! That is a deliberate cheap shot, maybe not to Billy Beane personally, but definitely to the franchise he represents and is fighting on behalf of. Professional GMs have enough respect for each other not to say things like that to each other face to face.
