Elon just felt like being an expert in military aircraft defence systems, and decided to make an extremely complex subject boiled down to "it sucks".
The same guy that said telsa would full self drive by 2018.
Ironic, since, from the Wikipedia page on Tham Luang cave rescue, "Additionally the local governor, Narongsak Osotthanakorn, stated that it was "not practical",[214] to which Musk responded that the governor was not a subject matter expert and mentioned the previous emails by Rick Stanton." Basically, when someone calls out Musk on the shit design of whatever he is pushing "not a subject matter expert" is important, but when Musk calls something else a shit design "not a subject matter expert" magically doesn't matter any more.
Elon: The development of AI is the greatest threat to humanity. Elon: All fighter jets need to be remote operated
I'd listen to Elon Musk on defense issues about as much as I would listen to a six-year-old on EU economic policy
Dunning-Kruger effect should be renamed into Elon Musk Effect
The same guy who said he'd solve L.A. traffic with hundreds of mini tunnels pulling sleds (the most expensive and soul crushing non-solution ever). I think he's better with his engineers improving technology but not necessarily large scale strategy.
As you put sensors and increase range, jets/drones get bigger. At a point the added volume and weight needed for a pilot becomes less significant. Having an F-35 with the big sensor and EW capacity accompanied by drones (wingman) gives will prove to be a good balance.
Because of the Dunning-Kruger effect
Elon weighing in on all weather aircraft when he can't even nail all weather cruise control XD
I'm a subject expert in the area of my doctoral degree. But unlike me, Elon seems to think his an expert in areas he has no education or experience in. I used to think highly of him before he let it go to his head, as evidenced by making a fool of himself with Twitter.
The devil is in the details, not a tweet. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to parlay his AI software into a defense company. Eugh.
Is it because he doesn't know what he is talking about ? :)
Musk has criticized the cost of the F-35, but in the context of the US military and NATO forces, maintaining and developing a fleet of multi-role fighters is essential to ensure flexibility and readiness in a variety of situations. The high cost of the F-35 may be an issue, but it can be justified by the development of highly integrated technology and long-term combat capabilities in modern warfare environments. Militaries must balance cost, performance, and sustainment, which can sometimes make choosing medium-range aircraft, rather than low-cost aircraft or UAVs, the optimal choice.
Biggest test of this statement isn't ukraine, but Iran and Houthis vs. Israel. 99% od long range cruise AND ballistic missiles were shot down by sams and... you guessed it... manned fighter jets. F15s killed like 50 drones in one engagement over Iraq. Future may be unmanned, but you can't beat the versatility of the manned air superiority / strike fighter to deal with current gen threats. Also "hypersonic missiles" is a ridiculous term as almost every ballistic missile goes hypersonic. The actual manuevreable type of hypersonic missiles that people are hyping are extremely niche weapons to hit targets in deeply contested airspace and will likely never be more than a fringe part of military arsenals like long range cruise missiles and icbms are today. IE. They will certainly not be used in mass numbers like artillery, glide bombs or air to air missiles are today.
Musk is great PR stuntmaster and businessman, but he is also the guy, who suggested saving kids in a cave by inventing and manufacturing special sub and promised full auto driving 10 years ago and spacex-thrusters-equiped roadster 5 years ago... How can somebody take him seriously in these matters is just sad I'd bet it's a bid to get his AI, that was rejected by Apple, take root in state funded areas
Because Elon wants to sell Tesla self-driving drones to the government. Just like the cars, they will be automated to run into things๐๐๐
It's sad we're even addressing this, as if every stupid fart he makes needs coverage, but I guess that's the world we live in now.
Of course he thinks that way. He still thiks his self driving car are ok!!
