ay shoutout to the algorithm for recommending me this
"If you find yourself constantly escaping from reality, then you need to work hard to create a reality you don't want to escape from." This really spoke to me. I find myself constantly wanting to check my phone if I'm frustrated or unsure what to do next in the day. I think I'm doing better by having a to-do list that I complete throughout the week but I still struggle to hold myself accountable. Here's to creating a better reality.
This channel should be named "Things ruining your life"
"If you find yourself constantly escaping from reality, then you need to work really hard to create a reality you don't want to escape from" Dude, this hit hard
Dude you crushed this edit. Also I think your perspective on this is gonna help a lot of people. I appreciate that you value the well-being of your audience over your own personal gain.
"We can't control the economy" Reddit: Nani?
“literal human egg” Laughed at this more than i should have
Youtube algorithm be like: At this point, they'll watch anything
“If you yourself don't choose what thoughts and images you expose yourself to, someone else will.” - Epictetus Crazy how it still applies. Even 2000 years later. Let's go stoicism!
Next up: how living is ruining your life
I think the algorithm has also destroyed a lot of creators’ confidence. If your video, post, content, etc. doesn’t “perform well” then creators internalize that feeling and equate themselves to failures
A bit extreme, but I just keep my phone tucked away in my closet for about 90% of the day on most days. My desire to engage with technology is quite low (even though I have a tech background and have been on the other side of the algorithm) because it’s a vortex in which time disappears, guilt arises, headaches form, and overall it’s never as satisfying to use in the first place. It is actually quite satisfying and enjoyable to just be bored. In my opinion, boredom breeds creativity. Boredom (while intentionally keeping the phone away) allows me to seek joy from other sources, such as cooking, admiring nature, drawing, nature walks, etc. it allows me to be “free” in a busy, noisy, over stimulating world. boredom with the phone in hand, on the other hand is a different story. Anyways, just keep the damn phone in a drawer somewhere, and go live life everyone 🙃 there is much fun to be had. If anyone here is a 90’s kid, you know we had our ways of having fun “back in the day” without all the technology stuff
You're not wrong. With quarantine and not being able to do whatever else I did before this pandemic, when I am not working, I spend nearly 90% of my day on my computer or phone. I found myself scrolling/consuming whatever I could on socials during my free time. Decided I needed to stop and went cold turkey. I am on day nine of no social media (besides the occasional YT video.) I have found doing other things and staying off my phone, interesting. It was hard at first. Asking myself, what should/can/could I do? Now, I have a long list of things I want to do and plan to do. But at the start, sitting with that anxiety and discomfort you talk about, I felt that and am still feeling it. The boredom and almost feeling like I could be and should be doing something else. Definitely a time to sit in the discomfort and process those feelings. Ask myself the same question Nathaniel asked, "What is your relationship with yourself?" On day 7: I went to the museum by myself, (wore a mask and distanced from others there!), didn't even touch my phone I was so engrossed in the art. The algorithm can eat my shorts.
"A literal human egg" 😂😂
Absolutely true, the social media algorithm just keeps us busy with nothing.
At this point we'll need a "why thinking things are ruining your life is ruining your life" video as well...
"If you are always escaping life, you should work really hard to create a life you don't want to escape from." .. damn
“You need to work really hard to create a reality you don’t want to escape from.”
I found your channel while I was on vacation and I thought "I'll stop doing social media things!" then I realized that since I was on vacation I had literally nothing else to do with my time
