He said “ THUS, says the Lord who created you , I have called you by name you are mine.” Which is Isaiah 43:1 my favorite scripture
Happy to see a new person watching this show! I'm a first time viewer of your channel, and this is what brought me here :) To answer a few of the questions you had along the way: Episode 1- -6:57- Rabbi means teacher in Hebrew, and is used as a term of respect (like calling someone Professor). In this context it is almost always a religious teacher- one who doesn't just teach theology, but how to live a good life that honors God. Nowadays rabbis are to the Jewish faith what priests/pastors are in Christianity. -10:40- these first few episodes aren't based on any specific bible stories. They're more laying the groundwork, introducing the characters. We do know that Mary Magdalene was possessed by seven demons and Jesus cast them out (Luke 8:2), but the story of her exorcism isn't written out in the gospels. -13:48- Tax collectors were absolutely hated by the people. Not just because everyone hates the tax man, but because they were seen as traitors, betraying their people and siding with the Romans. They were also generally very corrupt. The Romans didn't really care how they went about their business as long as they got their cut, so tax collectors would often overcharge the people, who had no recourse to fight back or prove them wrong, and simply pocket the difference. Episode 2- -16:57- this is Mary Magdalene. There are a lot of Marys in the gospels (it was the most popular woman's name at the time)... it can be tough to keep them straight! But you'll meet Mother Mary later. -22:24- the Shabbat (sabbath) celebration is a very important part of the Jewish faith, and everyone is supposed to celebrate it every week, high or low. It had a prescribed rhythm to it, even down to the words spoken and the prayers given. I think it's so cool how they show the various Shabbat dinners at the end... from the super rich dinner party, to Mary's humble dinner, but they were all celebrating the same thing. The flashback at the beginning shows them celebrating it the same way hundreds of years before this, and even today, thousands of years later, Jews around the world still celebrate it the same way... it's truly amazing when you think about it! Also, just a tip on your bible reading, especially if it's your first time reading it- I would give yourself a break and allow yourself to skip certain portions the first time through. There are places where it's just lists of the generations of a certain family, or listing the sacrifices required of each tribe (and it repeats the exact same list 12 times, once for each tribe) and that kind of thing, and it can be so easy to get bogged down in those things and just decide to bail. I've lost count of how many people I've heard from who did just that... they tried to read it straight through, got bogged down somewhere in Numbers or Deuteronomy, and then just never finished. So I'd recommend letting yourself self-abridge a bit- if you find yourself getting lost in the weeds, just skip ahead, at least the first time through. Besides, the other stuff means a lot more when you've got a general idea of the overarching story first. Anyway, I loved this reaction and I look forward to the rest! I hope there's enough interest to keep it going for all the seasons, because I will definitely watch them all!
I Will love to watch your way through The Chosen
Keep watching brother. It only gets better.
Fun fact: the actor who plays Jesus, Jonathan Roumie, also enjoys Heavy Metal and enjoys playing the drums in his free-time. I believe he's switched over to discovering and listening to Christian heavy metal now, but he still has great appreciation for the greats.
Never expected you to watch The Chosen. Hope you continue man! This series is amazing!
This series seriously changed my life mate!
Please do season 2! I don't think you'd want to part with this show after season 1 LOL. Love how different your reaction is. I don't mind the talking. "Rabbi" basically means "teacher." The pharisees are basically religious teachers. Jesus is a teacher but not a pharisee since he did not have official rabbinic schooling. He was going around gathering disciples and teaching about the scriptures that's why he was widely known as a rabbi. I love this show, looking forward to having a journey with you through all this haha
The first two seasons time is spent introducing you to the characters, among them the 12 apostles. In these 2 episodes we are introduced to Matthew, Simon Peter, Andrew, Thaddeus, and one of the two James’. Since not much is known about their lives before they met Jesus they have created plausible backstories for them. Over the seasons you get to see the change in the characters as they are exposed to Jesus. Also, like the opening statement said, they have added storylines, so not everything is direct from Scripture, but when they do the miracles or Jesus’ teachings they match up with what’s in the Bible. The Chosen is crowdfunded and the budget at the start was a fraction of what it is now, so as the seasons go on you’ll see the production quality really pick up. And the Chosen soundtrack, it is phenomenal, one of the best parts about the series.
Oh and reguarding your doubts in the video: The rabbis are the masters, the holy teachers of the law even if any master can be called rabbi (Jesus for example was also called rabbi, master). The possessed woman in the first episode is Mary Magdalene, and at the end of the first episode she is so shocked because Jesus calls her by name and recites to her verbatim the prayer that her father wrote to her when she was little, the same one that she throws off the cliff out of desperation. The old rabbi, the Pharisee, is instead the famous Nicodemus, a teacher quoted in the scriptures. The married man (the only one that was married according to the gospels) is instead Simon, who you will surely know by the name of Peter, Saint Peter. A name that Jesus gave him only later. Cheers!
YEEEEESSSS every month I search for people reacting to this show and it's rare, FINALLY
I'm a new follower. I came across your video because you were watching The Chosen. I'm a Chosen fanatic, and I enjoyed watching your take on the show.
In the intro, the fish represent the crowd. The fish that turn around and turn blue are those that discover and choose to follow Christ.
I'm so excited for taking this journey with you! I sure hope you will continue I'm so in to your reaction 🙂💝💞
Ah, I love that you're reacting to this. I found some of the episodes from the 1st season we're a little difficult for people who don't know their Bible well (especially the OT, there's so much depth to be found in the show if you know some basics) but as the seasons go on it's a little more explanatory. Defo subbed to you, and I love commentaries and reactions to shows I love. Don't know why, think we all want others to enjoy what we enjoy. Hope you get good views.
Dude! Please keep going I love watching this series with people and, contrary to belief, it’s still possible to enjoy the show without having every bit of background before diving in. Love getting to revisit the first episodes with you. God bless brother 🙏
This is my first visit to your channel, brought here by The Chosen and the appeal of watching someone experience it for the first time. I understand you are watching the show and giving your reactions and comments for your viewers. I'll just say, chances are very good that you will be hooked on the show by the end of episode 4. The story writing is excellent throughout. Unlike The Passion, there isn't a shock factor and you will want to watch these stories multiple times. Watch it for views, or just watch it on your own time. Either way, there is a very large family that will welcome you in.
Boom baby! Very appreciated! I'm glad you're taking a bit of an interest in the various films/series about Christianity. Curiosity is good, if not as a believer at least as an agnostic or for general culture. The chosen is a good product that investigates the approach and character of Christ and his love, apart of the apostles trubles and doubts in the daily life of their lives. Then, some things are not biblical, others are fictionalized but... you know... cinema is cinema, it's a good series that works and if you want an accurate thesis of the events, the Bible is within everyone's reach. So... happy and nice! (And Christ is King ;D Peace!)
Loved your reaction when Jesus showed up at the door. Keep going!
