You know a scene is iconic when other movies spoof it and you immediately recognize it
So basically what made this scene work is that he's actually struggling to do what his character is struggling to do. That's actually kind of great.
Thats why the first is so iconic. It has so many long shots filled with suspense. The camera work is also fantastic, great angles and perspective. Great movie.
Holding that shot as long as possible was a great move. Makes the struggle real. And real is always bette than acting.
That scene still holds up as one of the most iconic ever. When his head first emerges from the overhead duct, I’ve never heard, as oxymoronic as it sounds, a more thunderous silence in the audio that the sound editors created to show how important silence was in that scene.
This and Neo breaking his back to dodge bullets has been parodied more than any other scene
That shot was crazy in 98 when i first saw it on TV as a kid❤
Putting heavy coins in the shoes is a very inventive solution to that particular problem.
The long take was suuuuuch a funny move but the tension in this scene still holds up SO well.
The hardest part about this scene was knowing he can't put his feet on the ground and start sprinting
That scene will never be forgotten. Incredible movie
That scene birthed a decades long franchise. It's iconic
De Palma is a master. Really incredible work on this movie
This whole scene is what sucked me into watching every single mission impossible after. Loved it!
Scene so good even Pinocchio did it in Shrek 🤣
"But, if you keep the camera rolling...." ~Matt Damon as Jack Nickelson
