The entire global passive debacle can be solved by removing the line "This effect also works when Castorice is not on your team". Yeah she controls death it's perfectly normal to have a passive that 'revives' but when she isn't even on your team how tf do you do that bruh
if only they would just stop releasing two 5stars every single patch, most of their problems would be fixed
They can just make that passive work when its holder is on the field. It makes characters with these abilities strong, but you have to consider which ones you need to have on the team you want. Global passives and the endgame alongside it just blatantly incentivize players to hoard all of these abilities
omfg thank you for saying this and speaking about the powercreep and global passive stuff ur like one of the few hoyo ccs that actually spoke about it
The issue ive had is not about the passive itself, as you said the passive isn't great. Forme its the precedent it sets. Because if Castorice sells well and lets be honest she certainly will. It gives the green light to the devs that people are fine with more passives going forward. Attack, Speed, HP% the ideas on the next passives are endless and I don't like it.
Everyone keeps saying that it's not a big deal because the passive isn't that strong, but it feels like such a bad faith argument that ignores the fact that GLOBAL PASSIVES are bad, period. It's literally opening up Pandora's box and trusting MHY not to abuse that w/ ever increasing passives that get more and more necessary, then also them inflating HP to keep up w/ said passives existing. Will it ABSOLUTELY happen? No, we can't know. But I'd take one look at their track record of powercreep/HP inflation and choose to be proven wrong by MHY and look dumb than ignore it and be caught with my pants between my legs. Oh, and it's not a bad thing because it's a beloved character you were gonna pull anyway. Now imagine having to pull characters in the future that you have zero interest in, but Daddy MHY needs that bag so pull Glorbo to get those +50% DMG global passive that MoC will be balanced around.
Can't wait for the 'Castorice Global Passive is good' waifu collectors to cry when a male character (Phainon) gets a broken global passive lmao
i agree so much that reruns are basically pointless like i pulled on jingliu’s rerun for e1s1 and i haven’t used her like at all since then bc so many other newer characters are just so OP
We've gone from honkai star rail to "honkai spend rail"
Even with the argument that these changes are for whales and dolphins: I am fully a dolphin, a whale in some games. I started playing WuWa and almost dropped HSR entirely over the past two months. Which sucks, cause it was one of my two main games before. Even if I could spend money and fix game issues with eidolons, I often won’t on poorly designed units on the principal that my money is being used on a less valuable product/character if it needs that many eidolons to be viable. These changes don’t even appeal to me. I don’t want old units that have fallen just as far out of the meta as standard characters have. Even if they get buffed, will it be to tier 0 like new characters? Obviously not, because that would lose hoyo money on sales for new units. I can only see this benefiting collectors/completionist whales who want e6 everyone. And it’s a slap in the face to the f2p community, who is being paywalled out of satisfying endgame content. I really hate to see a game that’s beloved to me go this direction.
I've seen 3-4 reactions to this topic already, but this one feels like the most thoughtful and nuanced take from you and your viewers. I agree a lot, and honestly if they insisted on keeping global passives in the game, I wish they wouldn't tie it to a character but maybe to a card lottery system instead, like in DU (could provide indirect buffs for older characters?). I think the New Year event earlier was a good indicator of the direction this game was going as well; both Genshin and ZZZ offered elaborate Lantern Rite events, but HSR just offered....gambling tickets? How lame and low effort. Where did all the companion missions go? What's with all the black screens? It's just a constant deluge of new characters, it somehow feels both overwhelming and underwhelming.
i think a big problem i have with hsr is it is not f2p friendly, and is only getting worse. most limited characters are okay, but are only really good with their full 5 star premium team, their lc, and for a lot of characters: their E1 as well. adding the whole "affects your team even if castorice isn't in that team" just creates even more "you HAVE to pull for this character".
can't wait for 4.x char to power creep 3.0 char.
SilverWolf at least had a restriction to her weakness implant. You needed to build the team so that she would always reliantly put the right weakness onto the enemy. But Anaxa is just "Yeah i put EVERY weakness for no real cost". It seems like he is a character for those who only plays games two times a year. Hence why i always laugh when someone says HSR is a "difficult" or "strategic" game.
Good mr xlice that you have a spine to talk about it. Unlike Jokke
Something i wanted to express. Honestly, these global passives wouldn't be a big deal if it simply said that they can't be used in late game content like MoC. It would then just simply be things for world "exploration" that comes with story and other things like events. Making then even broken global passives not a problem. That said, hmm.. its odd, starrail def has lost itself in design when characters dont follow their own class archetypes and new characters are bloated with what their kits actually do. In my personally opinion though, hoyo is just being stupid on balance, plain stupid. AND failed to future-proof their game by implanting reasons for these characters to have an element outside of theme and "weakness break". Having element reactions or even path synergies could have saved them in character designs but oh well.. All their efforts arent in balance design, its just in character and story.
Based take. We all know that you do not farm dramas, your concern here on HSR is very well elaborated and reserved.
These passives fu*ks F2P and not because they can't get every character that has it but more like the content will be a lot harder because of these passives. For example, when a f2p player can clear MOC 12 now the MOC going to be harder and that F2P player now can only beat 11 or even 10 max. So they now can't get the currency they normally get which makes their over all income less and will miss more of these global passive characters. The passives themselves don't matter but what they will bring to the game.
You gotta hand it to hoyo they do a good job in making me not want to spend money on the game anymore 😂
