This series is outstanding, well done DW.
All involved should be commended for this series. These stories are important and they are really well told here.
Heartbreaking. Thank you again to DW for producing this series. For those of us lifelong amateur WW II historians, we don't often get to see or read something new. Following these real people's lives is a treasure. The fate of the Kohns was devastating to hear. When he was worrying about barbers and dining room tables, I thought to myself, how many others worried about these trivial things, utterly unaware of how bad things were about to get...
Excellent series. Ich bin äußerst dankbar dafür. Perhaps I missed it in the documentary, but Willy Cohn's oldest daughter, who had emigrated to Denmark, eventually made it to Palestine. She died at age 90, in 2015. Given the unexpected and horrific end for Willy and his family, it was nice to learn Willy and Trudy's oldest daughter survived.
This is an excellent series. Extracts of the life of real people across a broad spectrum of political views
This is what happens when your government blames a group of people for the countries problems, when propaganda is easily believed and truth isn't. When a dictator is worshiped without question, when insanity rules the land.
I will recommend this series to everyone. It is tragic and heartbreaking, but provides tremendous insight into how these things happen. Don't be foolish enough to think it can't happen again. At some level, it already has, in countries all over the world.
This series is incredibly well done. It never gets any easier to travel through this timeline, but the insights into so many different perspectives is really valuable and well chosen. I want to sob, but I am glad I have watched this all the same.
The girl who spent her childhood in Japan - I find it fascinating how bright she was at such a young age, and how she was able to see things clearly, unlike those who grew up in Germany and could not see through the propaganda. She showed strong compassion and sense of social justice.
I feel like yelling at the screen, “Leave, Leave now!”
This episode was the hardest to watch.
6:55 this “birthday parade” sends chills down my spine. Too close to home. Way too close. What are we doing people? We said “NEVER AGAIN” — what did we actually mean by that? “Never again” unless we needed to sell cars to US? Come on. UK, you, of all should see this for what it is. Americans can be forgiven for not being taught it, but the time is now (no matter who you are) to learn this history before it’s too late. NEVER AGAIN. NEVER. NEVER!
I will watch this series, but I'll have to take it slowly. Hitting a little too close to home. People don't see things until it is too late for them. We are no different. today. Exchanging one hated group for another to scapegoat and blame all problems on isn't hard to see if one has eyes to see.
Although it was to be expected, I am severely shocked by the ending of this episode.
18:15 "Listening to foreign broadcasts is illegal. Punishable by imprisonment, even death."
This a more than excellent series. Great job! Keep up the good work!😊
A Trump sympathizer is in charge of the FCC here in the US & it’s infringing on our press ability to report accurately. Only propagandists are allowed in the White House for press. It’s happening. Please pray for us.
We’ve all seen the videos from the death camps. But, there is something almost more affecting about witnessing the daily, weekly, monthly curtailing of rights and the sickening transformation of society to a place where needless and wanton cruelty become so commonplace.
Thinking that Cohns returned from Palestine when they had a chance to stay there is devastating. This is a very powerful series. Thank you DW ❤. Lest we forget.
