Thank you for this informative and very respectful film. I visited Oradour in the early 1970’s whilst on a touring holiday in France and it left an impression on me that lasts to this day. I managed the walk through the village, stopping respectfully at the varying sites of the barbaric murders, until I arrived at the cemetery. It was the fact that the dates of death on the gravestones were all the same just set me off and I shed many a tear over them.
In the fall of 2019, while staying in the French village of Bellac, we visited this site. It's interesting to visit and truly shows "man's inhumanity to man." I strongly encourage visiting this site, going through their displays, and then walking through the destroyed village.
I visited Oradour to see for myself what happened that awful day. It will live in my memory forever. Thank you for making this video. As the plaque at the entrance says ‘Remember’.
My wife and I visited here in 2017 on a trip to France. I was at once both appalled and fascinated by the scene. My wife could barely speak. Strangely enough the day we were there the was a school group, who, sadly, maybe didn't understand the gravity of the village, and spend more time laughing and on their phones! It made a surreal place even more sad. Every 10th of June I remember the village and those poor souls, and remind myself that cruelly today, this is happening STILL around the world. Thank you for creating and sharing.
My wife and I visited about 10 years ago on a chilly December day. We walked through the village then up the lane to the cemetery. I was moved by the inscription on many graves “murdered by nazis”. Made it real for this man from Australia who had never seen such a thing before. Thanks for the video so I could revisit and remember.
Excellent video, well researched and narrated. I visited this place a fews years back. Very moving, especially seeing all the faces of the victims in the Museum.
mon grand-père était représentant de commerce dans la région, il connaissait beaucoup de personnes a Oradour, jamais il n'y est retourné! votre vidéo ma permis de voir le village intact, autrement que sur des photos. merci
Every 20 years this town should be commemorated with a video such as the one here. This so that every generation gets to learn about it, and consequently the memory of Oradour-Sur-Glane will never be forgotten. Otherwise, the town will be lost to time and all those that died there too. We can't let that happen, so thank you for your excellent video. To all those that died R.I.P 🌼
I now live about 3 hours south of Oradour-sur-Glane. I visited the village twice in the nineties, once with my late first wife, and once with my second wife and my daughter. It was an incredibly emotional experience and all three were in tears during their visit. It is a horrifying example of what man is capable of. And the awful, sad thing is that I don't think the world has learned any lessons from that time. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose 😞
Thank you for this video. I live in Central France, and my french friends have definitely not forgotten about this atrocity, having told me about it some time ago.
I knew an American Army officer who saved an entire village during the battle of the bulge. He was ordered to retreat but realizing the village would be annihilated he ordered his troops to help evacuate the townspeople. Many decades later he was honored by the village. Once before he died and then again at his internment at Arlington.
I visited last summer and was moved by the destruction . Thank you for telling the story
My husband & I visited Oradour Sur Glane while travelling through france. It was very humbling & sad to think a whole village wiped out for no reason. Unbelievable, rip ❤❤❤❤
The Brother of my grandma was in this division „Das Reich“ and also in Oradur. He was 17years old and was two years as a POW in Great Britain. He was a very funny guy to me and didn‘t talk very late about this event with family members.
I’ve visited this place was probably 25 years ago,was one of the most haunting places I’ve ever visited..
I was in Oradour. It was very, very impressive. Thank you for this excellent video.
The activities of the French Resistance around June 6, 1944, kept German panzers away from the landing beaches at Normandy long enough for the Allies to gain a foothold and not be thrown back into the English Channel. When German panzers did finally reach the area, they were annihilated by allied ship artillery and also by fighter-bombers. The Resistance's contributions were vital for a successful landing and breakout.
A staggering reminder of the horrors of war and ss brutality. I have been there and the atmosphere is palpable and truly sad. It is a very quiet place even with visitors there and seeing the cemetery with the pictures of the little children takes your breath away. If you can go please go it does puts life in perspective.
This was a very well made documentary! I feel so sorry for the people of Oradour-Sur-Glane.
