Jesse, this was hands down our favorite sword video we've ever been featured in! The way you presented everything was not just professional, but full of passion and that really shows. The black Shusui katana came out absolutely stunning. We're honored you gave our custom katana a moment in the spotlight, and even more thrilled that it got your seal of approval. Seriously, it means a lot. Keep doing what you do, your work inspires a lot of people, us included!
Holy, the aquarium quench in 25:00 is sick man, aquarium makes it 10x better to watch
I love the long format videos like this. I don't think I would enjoy them as much without the voice-over explaining things.
Just finished watching your forged in fire appearance with my dad and you were our favorite contestant by far. I was thrilled to see you made a YouTube channel. Keep up the great work man the channels growing fast.
Nothing like the feeling of finally nailing something after refusing to settle for less. Jesse still the GOAT
I'd absolutely love 2x long no commentary work-process videos. i love turning things like that on while i do other things, and it grows an appreciation of the craft
I would LOVE to see a series dedicated to Kagurabachi's enchanted blades. With katanas and sword fighting being so central to its plot, with the enchanted blades being the crux of it all, Kagurabachi seems like the perfect place to look for more blades to forge. While it hasn't been adapted to anime yet, it would be awesome to see the manga's incredibly detailed and gorgeous illustrations of the katanas themselves brought to life.
In Kyoto, I went to a traditional demonstration where they showed us many of the integral parts of creating a katana. Essentially, they had numerous blades at various stages in the process and allowed us to observe while they went through each step. They showed us live forging, polishing, the creation of the hibaki, etc. One of the steps was the water quench, and they used a very similar glass tub/aquarium to quench so we could watch the curve form. 24:59 gave me heavy deja vu, it is very reminiscent of how real blacksmiths in Japan quench nihonto. The blade looks fantastic, Jesse. Congrats! ππ
Ngl i have been waiting for this since the twin tanto vid
I painted guitars for a living so I have a tip for you on your next saya. We would seal the wood by painting it with several thin coats of clear polyester, let it dry and sand it, then paint the color on it and the decorations, then several thin coats of polyurethane. This makes it smooth and not have any wood grain in the finish. You did a pretty nice job on it though. I really liked the coffee trick. I have seen once but it really turned out nice on your blade. Great video! Take care!!!
It's amazing how you managed to make an etched hamon feel so natural⦠love seeing you push your skills and techniques even further.
As a machinist, let me tell you 2 things. When you used the mill to drill a hole in the tang is perfectly fine with the right type of end mill. You made it through so you had the right kind. 2nd, we have a saying that everyone is a hero in brass and I have NEVER seen someone break one end mill in brass much less as many as you did π Love you work!
I recently read kagurabachi. its absolutely amazing, and the enchanted blades almost have personailities. would love to see those be made
56:46 I'd love to see a Lord of the rings sword. Like sting. Somehow. I never come across people making those swords lol
The reality that you're just doing this stuff in your garage is so sick
Long format is good but only because you tell a compelling story which get a person hooked. You take us through your ups and down and dissapointments, that I find myself awed at your desire to persevere and I start rooting for you to achieve your stated goals. Really well made video and the sword is off the charts
that water-quench is so satisfying to watch, the curve came out so beautiful
39:05 the lightning McQueen sandals go hard π₯π
56:33 : As an idea for another sword/weapon you could make in the future, how about a/Guts's Raiders Sword from Berzerk? It's probably a lot more realistic to do then the Dragonslayer but it's still pretty iconic for a lot of people.
