One of the funniest movie scenes I've ever seen in my life and I have no idea why.
This is me talking to a girl.
What really makes this scene for me is one of them holds his cup up as if to say, "Yeah, Big Gulp! Thanks for asking!"
I read before that this was not in the script. And the two guys weren't actually extras. They were hanging around off screen drinking big gulps, and the director decided to put them in the movie and have them stand there. Then out walks Jim and he ad libs those lines. Iconic!
Jim Carrey was never more Canadian than he was in this scene
One of the best lines on the history of cinema. The natural randomness.
Literally the most accurate depiction of me attempting small talk that I've ever seen in film.
Fact these were 2 random dudes just standing outside and Jim ad libbed this is amazing.
This is what being social again after the COVID pandemic feels like
This scene was completely improvised and the two men werent even extras to begin with. They were just hanging around and Jim carrey just did that scene at one point and they put it in the movie.
Honestly if you use this kind of approach to everyone you meet in life you are going to have a huge funeral turn out.
This scene has pretty much become a kind of barometer of the soul for me. If I watch this and still laugh, I know I am not completely dead inside yet.
This is one of the more underrated and least quoted lines in the film. And one of my favorites.
It's the fact that they're not extras lol.
It's absurd how much I use this in everyday conversation.
I still laugh to myself once every few years when im in a 7-11 and remember this. Happened today which is what brought me to watch this.
In a Reddit AMA from 2014, the director explained how the scene — which was never in the script — just happened to come together. “One line that was definitely ad libbed is the Big Gulp line,” wrote Farrelly. “In fact, the two guys he was talking to weren’t even extras, they were just hanging out, watching us shoot and I decided to pull them in. They happened to have Big Gulps and Jim just ran with it. True story.”
