Obi wan was the only person who could beat anakin because Obi trained him and knew his weaknesses. He warned anakin one last time to not attack him on the high ground. Obi hoped anakin would reconsider but anakin was so full of himself he tried and Obi had to put him down.

There’s one problem you can see in the scene that takes place before obi wan and padme arriving on mustafar anakin is crying and the novel confirms this by says that he is crying because he just realized that the kid who wanted to be a Jedi had just died . If he was a full sith he wouldn’t have been crying and if you pay close attention to his eyes from him crying to the end of his battle with obi wan they are blue . They don’t become red permanently until he loses his legs and yells at obi wan I” I hate you ! “

It also doesn't help that from a young teenager to adulthood Anakin was fighting and leading on the frontlines as a soldier during the Clone Wars. To be a soldier in a combat role you have shut the blinders to people suffering or else you can't do your job effectively which is slaying the enemy. You see that in the Ahsoka series when Anakin explains to his Padawan (Ahsoka) by giving the expression "Live or die.". Even to be effective in light saber combat sometimes you see Jedi tap into dark side energy when dueling. ex.) -Mace Windu using his 7th Fighting Style to duel Sidious. -Obi Wan using an outlawed combat attack to overcome and slice Darth Maul in half. -Anakin using a disarm to slice Dooku arms and head off. -Yoda even had to match Sidious in dark energy to counter some of those attacks. I can see that the Clone War has had a huge effect on Anakin psychologically. Even before Anakin went to that Jedi Temple he had already killed hundreds of beings (human/alien) in the war plus a Sith Apprentice.
