It is actually so important to have innovations in anti-piracy, because it creates innovations in piracy.
My man is just invoking clever pirates
PirateSoftware when PirateVideogames walks in
"Within 30 hours, our game was pirated with an achievement attachment."
"unpiratable" is a very strong phrase. kind of like "unsinkable"
"unpiratable" is a very strong word.
"Unpiratable" just like the Titanic was unsinkable huh?
"Your save file is your steam achievements! You cant pirate it!" "Great... How do I start a new game?"
Where there's a will, there's a pirate
“Guys we made a new cruise liner, it’s unsinkable…”
Remember that time that company said that they couldn't be hacked and a bunch of hackers proceeded to hack them this reminds me that
Pros: slightly inconveniences the job of a pirate Cons: Can only play the game once
this is such good bait lol. my man created a massive engagement farm to promote his game
The one guy who changes the code to not check the achievements and backends it to check something else.
What if I wanna play the game twice? What if I wanna reload a save? What if my internet is down? What if steam doesn't log my achievements on time (which it is notorious for)? What if pirates just think slightly harder and find a workaround? All you've done is just make the game terrible for actual paying customers.
Calling a game unpirateable is like calling your ship unsinkable: It is hubris of the highest degree and Murphy will do his damnedest to make an example out of you.
"My game is unpirateable" You have alerted the hoard
Finally, an ethical use for Achievements
The real reason it's not being actively pirated is because it's available and affordable. It's just bad-faith to pirate a game that's priced fairly and ready for purchase.
