It's crazy how you guys can make a video about a topic that (probably) the majority of the world won't care about until it's too late. And to make a video about it that's this enthralling is just simply amazing. I've been saying it for years now, but I love this channel!
HOLY MOLY this is the journalism we all crave and love. You blew this one out of the park Johnny. This is the new age 60 minutes. The way you started the video, the way you tie side stories together. A+
when you see a 1 hour video, you damn sure it's very important in a global scale
This was honestly a very well done video. I've read about nodules over the last few years, but piecing everything together for a seamless story in much like movie format is amazing journalism.
You missed an important issue in the What's at Stake section. The recent discovery that these nodules generate oxygen though electrolysis, small amounts, but significant enough. Removing this source of oxygen from the Abyssopelagic Zone has its own set of unknown ramifications.
Thank you Johnny for also mentioning Indonesia and it's nickel mining in Sulawesi. As an Indonesiaan, i think we need to be more aware of this issue and need more discussions about this.
Huge update from TMC's earnings call yesterday. They filed the first‑ever commercial‑recovery permit in the U.S. This shifts the company from the slower ISA process to a U.S. focused track that management argues is faster and legally clearer. Seems TMC is more than willing to engage in the lawlessness of the seas if it means they get to mine the sea floor more quickly (side note: TMC was nearly out of cash after the last Q).
when AI takes over youtube, it'll be videos like these that'll be impossible to replace, truly incredible work
Kudos to research that went behind this video
16 trillion versus biologists, we now how this turns out 😢
This is the best video this channel has put out yet in my opinion. The editing, the amount of people brought on to comment about the topic, experts etc. This video was like watching a full blown major documentary. Props to Johnny and his team!
After reading The Exiled Principles of Power by Kairo Vantrel, I started noticing things I used to ignore—symbols, patterns, systems. It’s like it turned a light on in a room I didn’t know existed. And once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
Man to be able to create a video for almost an hour and make every second of it interesting is just hands down the best journalism i have ever seen. Been watching your videos for years and its just keeps getting better and better. Mad respect for you johnny and to your team! This is the kind of journalism that we want! Thank you for all that you do i personally am learning more about the world we live in through you guys!
I can't believe this is free to watch. Amazing research, storytelling, production quality, and journalism all-around.
Johnny’s ability to make an hour long video interesting in this short attention span world is AMAZING
I’m an honors student in accounting and It’s pretty fascinating how control works in business, especially from an accounting perspective. Control isn’t always about owning most of the shares—it can also come from having the majority say in directors’ meetings or decision-making. With Nauru and The Metals Company, even though Nauru doesn’t have the money to own a majority of the shares, they still seem to have control over the big decisions. That basically means they call the shots without needing to own most of the company. It’s a cool example of how subsidies and influence can work together to shift control.
No skipping—every part is worth watching. I've been learning a lot and staying updated thanks to this channel.
I like how Johnny just brings up the things that are looks insignificant but has an impact on all the people of the planet.
I'm only a few minutes into the video but the amount of time you've spent on this story and the amount of people you've talked to is astounding. I appreciate that you don’t cut corners in your search for understanding.
