@LouisA-q3r

I'm running LMDE on a 10 year old Dell laptop and it's working fine for the last 2 years. 😊

@raughboy188

My take on what is curently going on inside cannonical is that cannonical wants to replace entire debian package base and apt altogether with snaps to make their entire lineup snap exclusive. I don't know how long will linux mint put up with cannonical but LMDE might become official linux mint version at some point.

@timinwsac

I've been using debain 12 with the xfce desktop for the last six or seven months now and really like it.

@NeoNine10

Switched to LMDE from regular Linux Mint based on Ubuntu on my old computer and it solved my slowdown crash issue where the cursor would suddenly go super laggy and the system wouldn’t always recover.

I recommend LMDE or trying any other distro not based on Ubuntu if you’re facing stability problems or any other issues. But it seems like a Debian-based distro is best for stability, and perhaps a little better for older hardware having holding back to an older kernel.

@kev2020-z9s

Linux Mint should just concentrate on Debian version. I can't under stand why they go to the trouble of producing a ubuntu and stripping all the bad stuff out IE snap's.

@jimmychan19

Depends on what hardware is used. In my case, LMDE is running more smoothly and stable than the normal version.

@TheLotw

Ubuntu future is not safe, as Ubuntu is pushing SNAPS and doing all sort of things in the background could break all things based on them.

@JohnDoe-ip3oq

NEVER FORGET: Canonical makes their own improvements and DOESN'T contribute back to the source. They're unfriendly to Linux and standards, and just provide an easy to use distro, which follows their own standard. You can credit them for ease of use, but they don't get passing marks for anything else. Also, they have telemetry.

@TheLotw

You are wrong about the Flatpak version. The flatpak version is the official and works the same on any DISTRO. The repo version is built by a maintainer, not the actual developers of OBS. Flatpak always work as everything needed to make them run is included, including the dependencies.

@Noname-gh5ec

Depends a lot on what you do. I'm ok with a light version. Other people like more graphics and gadgets. To each his own, both available.

@anirbellahcen5551

I prefer and use LMDE6 which is the best and more stable and light than Ubuntu version. Although it contains old kernel and packages and also I miss OBS and some other software versions but this is the price for stability, privacy and security.

@garydemaroney1433

I use Both and can not decide which is better.

@steveh8658

I had LMDE but wanted more recent updates. So 2 months ago I went with OpenMandriva for the KDE plasma6 experience and it's been refreshing; I can use whatever repositories I want, the settings are well laid out, and it seems bulletproof so far. Devuan looks interesting if I want to go back to Debian (without systemd)

@andywarden525

Hi I use LMDE and I have used LinuxMint standard as well. I've no objection to it. I wanted to install a new laptop and my usb already made was LMDE so I used that and I kept it. Love it so far. Less update notifications so i don't fear i'm falling behind. LMDE is already 1 1/2 years older software than regular Mint but I don't miss it so far

@steeltormentors

always Debian based distro for stability...you don't have to deal too much with OS maintenance, just install and forget. But if you want to tinker, you can do that too! it gives you options..but the main quality is the stability.

I'm on MX-Linux (also Debian based), if I had to choose between the Mint variant then LMDE no brainer.

@derekr54

I run the main edition of Linux Mint on my desktop and I use LMDE on my laptop.Both are identical in the apps I have on them and both work flawlessly. The only visible difference are the boot screens.

@joemullally1232

Honestly if we had (and it may have it now I've not looked since I switched to Linux)
1) the driver manager GUI on LMDE
2) Easy working of DaVinci Resolve

I'd have been on LMDE years ago
I can't trust Cannoncial because of their history with the Amazon telemetry stunt.
Snaps are also awful.

But mint is so good. I'd happily be on LMDE if it weren't for the quality of life improvements as above or if I had time to fix them myself, but currently need a "just works" distro due to life.

@ulrik12nd

The only thing in Debian that is difficult is to upgrade.
It is easy to update the source file but for a beginner it is scary to update a configuration file.

@williamnessanbaum7464

I really can't see Canonical/Ubuntu going anywhere any time soon... I'd like to think that Canonical is the only entity that will eventually be able to run shoulder-to-shoulder against Micro$oft.

@GoolagThemTube

The reason the Ubuntu based version is still the main version is because of better hardware support. Otherwise LMDE would already be the main version.
