Oh, you would be horrified by what my mother would put on a sunburn when I was a kid. She put apple cider vinegar on it. It did make the sting go away and it stopped it from itching. I think it’s a legacy of my grandmother, a German, who thought vinegar was the cure-all for everything. 😂

@Novemberrain111

Ohhhh how I miss Noxema😢I grew up in the 80s and this was the go to for face cleanser😂the smell of it, is never forgotten

@slobodkin

Beware If you have eczema and/or sensitive skin. I had a terrible reaction to Noxzema years ago and learned this the hard way.

@madisynrichardson3370

I'm from Florida, and I use this every time I get a sunburn. It instantly takes away the pain, and some of the redness goes away the same day. I also don't peel bad when I use it

@rhondagoodman9993

When I was a kid in the 1960s, we always put Noxema on sunburns. It was very soothing, and took the sting out of the sunburn. I still use it to remove my makeup as a first cleanse (not near my eyes, though).

@solairith6467

While camphor, menthol, and eucalyptus can irritate some folks, more people than not find them soothing. I don't sunburn, but it has been consistently helpful with itching and pain from other conditions.

@lesann1896

As a kid of the 70’s - we always put plain Noxema on our sunburns and wore a light tshirt over it! It did wonders! But vinegar mix in water was recommended by a local Floridian when top of my feet got very burned! OMG it was the best soother!

@texasskygirl7890

Yum! Noxema. Fragrance of my youth.

@QTKLo

I messed up my skin barrier a few times as a teenager washing my face with Noxema. I didn't know that's what I did at the time. All I knew was that I would develop super sensitive patches that stopped me from wearing makeup for a few days. It probably didn't help that the Cover Girl blush and foundation that I used back then had Noxema ingredients on it.

@IOSALive

Dr Dray, You're the best! I just had to subscribe!

@Billiard-cp1my

I had the worst sunburn ever on my back and shoulders in 1981 aged 21. My skin blistered and was agony. It looked like the skin of an 80 year old in that area for years. It looks normal now but has darker freckles there. I live in fear of getting skin cancer, particularly because I was a redhead. Ever since getting badly burnt though, I have worn SPF on my face every day and SPF 50 on exposed body parts.

@PotatoAli

Noxema eases the burn every time. It's amazing. All that itchy gross sunburn feeling goes away. Try it before you knock it Doc

@Lila77722

That brings back memories. Didn’t know they still sell noxema

@merylparks1584

We used it when we were sun burnt in the 60’s but not a lot out then and spf wasn’t high like it is now

@alexisbalmer4675

Essential oils of peppermint, camphor and eucalyptus are all high in ketones and menthol which produce that cooling, freshening skin sensation, taking some of the heat away, making skin feel more comfortable. They are also anti bacterial. They are also well diluted in the moisturising base making a reaction less likely so I can see how this could actually help.

@primordialmeow7249

I use The Walmart brand Equate Noxema dupe ($2.50 per tub) as a refreshing body wash in the summer. Feels so fresh in the shower after a hot Arizona summer day.

@deborahchannon4389

When I was a kid it was standard for moms to put Noxema on sunburns. It was cooling and it did seem to help heal the burn.

@monkeybusiness1999

Noxema was the most common sunburn reliever when I was a kid many decades ago. Honestly don't remember if it was effective or not - the noxious smell of the stuff distracted you from noticing little else except your overwhelmed sense of smell. 🙊

@Bones469

I used to use Noxzema as well as Vicks for my sunburns when I was young. It made my skin feel cool and helped sooth the burn... but teen age boys can be a bit crazy lol

@lmsxxaaa

I use Noxema for various issues and have done so for years. I love it.
