Just another one of Trump's Follys. Alcatraz works far better as a tourist attraction under the auspices of the National Park Services than it ever did as a prison. Another one of Trump's follys is the border wall at Mexico to my recollection a border that is over 1200 miles long and he has put up at best 400 miles of wall. Not successful as a wall when all you need to do is walk through a gap which is about a thousand miles wide. Oh just remembered his follies are coming fast and furious I've forgotten about the Golden Dome modelled on Israel's Iron Dome even though he's been told that this is nigh impossible to achieve and would be indescribably expensive.

Maybe they could make this another “prison for profit”. Then investors could capitalize on prisoners and pay them well below minimum wage. Then politicians can pass new laws criminalizing just about everything.

This was a distraction because the cost to reopen the prison or operate it as a prison hasn't change just the prices have gone up and the modern requirements, I also saw where they said that at the time of closure it was outdated for that time and in a rundown state. While a novel idea it was to put a prison on rock surrounded by deep cold water with sharks, it was just not practical to operate as a prison too much cost it had no native water source. everything had to be brought in by boat, and removed by boat, i thought they could build a bridge to the mainland and then i realized that there was a reason that was not done.

So much for saving us money. It was shut down before because it was an ABSURD expense... just shuttling workers back and forth alone - it isn't worth the expense.
