Maybe the real AM3 was the friends we made along the way
We talked about am5,am4,am3 what about am2?
The jump from my FX 6300 to a Ryzen 5 3600 was nuts!
I still have my bulldozer (FX 8350) CPU. OC it served me well for almost a decade and it still works. I had to sit through hours and hours of discussions on why I didn't switch to intel in the mid 10s. I've been with AMD since the Athlon days and love how well they polished their image with their Ryzen CPUs. Well deserved,
the main problem is that under AM3 there were no top-end processors comparable to the top processors from Intel. They were good for an average budget. Secondly, few people understood the main problem of this architecture - the memory subsystem, so overclocking the cores did little. Now the processors on the AM3 are just antiques. I speak as a 2011-v3 workstation user. My 18-core Zeon is 1.5-2 times inferior to the modern ryzen 9600x in terms of performance, both in single-core and multi-core.
Ryzen was a revolution. i remember buying my r5 1600 on release and being shocked about getting a 6c/12t cpu for so cheap. i opened my task manager and just watched the 12 threads separately thinking i have unlimited power
People that are just now getting into PC building will never understand the sheer bafflement that the community had when people realized that the new AMD ryzen CPUs were actually good. At least in my group, everybody was skeptical for the first generation and by Gen 3 everyone has a Ryzen.
My 2012 AM3 FX8350 is a grizzled war vet that has seen many tours of duty and years of service. I will show it the respect and honor it deserves. Its still working in a Linux machine and I'm tempted to turn it into a NAS box for its golden years.
My brother in law is still on AM3+. He was a 1070 and his brother gave him a 2080. He didnt know how to use it and it sat in a box for years. I "upgraded" his system, moved him to an SSD and cleaned it and was a hero in the household
My dad used to work for Intel but he quit after working there for over 20 years and right after he left Intel started getting a ton of hate. The timing was hilarious.
Genuinely Lisa su might be the goat ceo for somehow saving this company lol
we need a AM3 cpu tier list
I remember when i7 were just 4 core 8 threads with such insane prices and people were going nuts for "wow dude you're rocking an i7". Now even entry level Ryzen 5300U has 4 cores and 8 threads. Good thing Ryzen happened.
I rocked an fx from 2011 till 2020. It was a reliable beast. Since building that pc in 2011 I’ve been team red.
To be honest… we can kinda be happy that the hardcore team red people existed back then. Without them there wouldn’t be what we have now.
man the FX 6300 was my first CPU purchase and will forever have a special place in my heart.
Intel had really big upperhand atleast 11 years from late 2006 to 2017. AMD was really good in early 2000s.
2017 almost a DECADE over?????
I had a FX 9590 during this period with a GTX 980 TI, those were good times
