There is one theory we all over looked. Maybe the talisman has religious meaning to them, like how some people do not swear in the house of worship. I noticed that the marking on the wall where monster's sleep , are almost identical to the marking on the talisman. So maybe the talisman mark the place a sacred place?

I believe, once you invite them in since they do look like vampires, no one in the house is safe any longer. Like the Bo came inspected the house. After the little girl raise the window for the old lady she came in and went out the front door the talisman was on the floor.

I noticed that after both attacks the Talimans were toss aside on the ground next to the door. Almost as if the creatures grabbed them chucked them aside after they were done.

I don't think the talisman do anything. It's part of the creatures' sick joke- a means to give false hopes.

Why don't say, that it's magical? Maybe the creatures are repelled by something magical in this talismans, that give protection from the creatures. Maybe it's blessing the house where it is and unable creatures to come in by strenght.

I just could listen to the chemical part and that was enough, I couldn't go any further... man, how could the talismans have any chemical repellent properties if when the monsters are let in the talismans not longer work? lol
