@choncord

"The reason they call it the American Dream is because you have to be asleep to believe it."

@jemfaerie77

Honestly, I hate it here. I want to leave but I can't due to family commitments. The American lifestyle for people I know is work, go home, sleep, do it all again. There's never enough money or time to enjoy life.

@DanielJayRobinson

The thing I don't understand about "The American Dream" is that its talked about as if America is the only country you can move to to get a decent job, a nice eventually paid off home, and a better future for your children. Like, this dream can be acheived in many other countries, starting from the bottom up and all.

50 million on food stamps.
24 million unemployed.
11 million drug addicts.
2 million in prison.
6 million on parole.
44,000 gun deaths.
$36 trillion of debt.
More nightmare than dream.

@blackmownkey

The American dream used to be a house with a white picket fence, a car, and a chicken in every pot. Not most of us can't afford the house, car, or the pot to put the chicken in all at the same time.

@rw9207

The US is 27th in the global Social mobility index, behind Estonia!.. There are 26 counties that are better "Lands of opportunity"... The top 10 are ALL, 'Social liberal democracies is Europe!'

@davew4998

Americans dream of 5 weeks paid holiday per year, and not being afraid to lose your job because your family's health care is dependent on it.

@Nicklessization

I call it American nightmare.

@sergios4620

Understanding the system doesn't guarantee anything.... If anything they can guarantee you distress depression and anxiety...... The energy and the effort you need to not falling to this category is humongous or belong to family who is already at the top and you've been served on a silver platter your whole life, or you find a way to be successful at the right people were at the right place right time,etc,etc

@SiltStrider232

Us Europeans have better paid holiday entitlement, better healthcare, more paid maternity leave, less violent crime, no opioid crisis…. tell me again, which one was the land of the free supposed to be again?

@TeeLock

Preach young blood.

@coffee-in-japan

Same as the UK… great place to study and work but the life is very meh… definitely better places to live. It can just be a hamster wheel of earn, spend, earn, spend and leave it all feeling a bit hollow. Run for that pension etc…

@AN-OLD-BEE

The young lady’s explanation about the current “American Dream” sounds like the Japanese phrase 過労死 (karōshi).

In Japanese, the phrase "work until you drop" or "work until you die" is often referred to as 過労死 (karōshi). This term specifically means "death from overwork" and highlights the serious issue of excessive working hours leading to severe stress, health problems, and sometimes even death.

The concept of karōshi has become a significant social issue in Japan, where work culture can be extremely demanding. The term encompasses various causes of death related to overwork, such as heart attacks, strokes, and suicide due to work-related stress.

@emmanuelrobert208

The American dream were on for a specific group of people. The GI Bill, Jim.Crow and relining.

@aznsumthing

The “American Dream” was never a promise. You have to work for it and make the right choices. Not everyone from the boomer generation made it either. It doesn’t get handed to you.

@slatey2609

She nailed it👍

@Mohsin-x3p

My cousin moved to the us from Pakistan and she is fully qualified doctor because of the American dream 😊

@tahiti1

The irony is that Colombia is now overrunning with US Americans moving there to escape from the US

@urimasu1seller994

I think the American dream, is about working hard to succeed, be able to afford a healthcare, give a quality education to your children, afford going on vacations, buy a house, become the middle class.
But if that is not possible anymore, there is no dream.

@factsy7042

American dream is just a dream for most people.
