when recording on this device ALWAYS make sure to turn off the unit properly after you've finalized the recording. even if the recording was ended correctly, if the power is interrupted it will mess up the sd card and you won't get those files back. happened to me on two of my largest concerts that I was recording. hope it doesn't happen to you! other than that great unit.
Word to the wise; if you’re thinking about getting a Model 16 instead for more channels, be aware that although it is an interface.. the mixer itself is analog. This means that you can’t do any midi mapping of faders, encoders etc. Model 12 is MUCH better at actually interfacing with a DAW.
Controlling the daw is what did it for me. This is why I never liked mixers because you’re still going to be mixing things in your daw because you can’t easily pull that out of the pipeline. A mixer that controls the Daw is exactly what the doctor ordered.
Love this unit. I bought during Covid lockdowns so our church could setup and stream from home. It’s been working great since then. Now I use it as an interface for my home studio. It’s fantastic. Highly recommend at retail price but if you get it cheaper it’s a total steal.
The 12 has changed my life. I have a mixing room and my tracking room is in my living room. Tracking bass, guitars and drums. It’s so good that it’s portable and I can reamp - re-record through Apollo interfaces - and take it around everywhere. It’s not light but it’s well made. It take a little bit of a learning curve -pfl/afl and live/pc/mtr mode bjt the vamp feature (looper) is amazing. It would be great in the next firmware there was a trim feature (still get away with vamping (setting marks and so fourth) but other than that. MIDI in and out I’m getting the hang of and still haven’t successfully figured out insert but using a radial extc stereo reamper it doesn’t matter. Oh and track swapping is genius so no need to change cables - just swap the track to another channel and you’re set. I love it
I've been looking for a mixer myself. The 4i4 was good for a while. Now that my studio is growing I need more inputs and etc. This looks like a great choice my friend.
Ive Been wanting one of these for years, ive never seen or heard of anyone with anything but nice things to say, highly recommended for the home recording musician
I had a mini tascam that ran on 8 double AA batteries and that thang was sweet! I could record ANYWHERE and bounce the 8 tracks over and over to create more tracks. Tascam is a great company!
Got this year ago and did not regret it. Using it as I write this. I stilll haven't seen anything comparable years after. Has handled band set ups, rehearsals, professional work as a audio editor/sound designer. This thing is a beast. Heavy but worth the weight. 4 years after would buy again if needed.
This is a great bit of kit. The kind of thing any school teaching audio engineering and production up to high school level should have.
I moved to a 'real' physical mixer about 2yrs ago .. never going back .. the usb audio and control aspects are awesome .. works with daws and standalone HW for control and interfacing
Geoff from Hamilton Canada here - - -- Great video, Thanks! Just got the Model 24 - and I'm blown away by all of it (got it for $800 - thing is such good quality - every component. Rock On Tascam Lovers!
These multi purpose devices are great. I got a Zoom R-16 years ago. It has 8 inputs combo XLR/.25". I understand your joy! 😅
Been using the model 24 to stream and record on for a while now, it changed our sound a lot!
The 12 is outstanding- From time to time the power switch is a bit wonky But it can be fixed.
Got mine on reverb a week ago for $450 before tax and free shipping! Love it!
currently using my Model 12 as an interface on the front end but also using it for stereo playback or pushing stems thru the faders. for the money the isn’t much else out there that’s as versitile. a year into owning this thing and I’m happy.
Got mine 6 months ago and it's a gem of a machine!
I have one of these in my living room. It's great for mixing media sources and having jam sessions. Also, like the cheesy compressor for movies and TV, the dramatic volume changes are tamed.
