Lighting redirection is a Water Bending technique. The bicycle kick is from air bender's evasiveness . The defensive's stances Zuko was applying are Earth Bending based. Zuko has also mastered the four elements at this stage.
The fact that it actually was someone's birthday makes the scene all the more hilarious and shows how much Sokka has developed from, "Fun? We can't fight firebenders with fun?!" to pranking an entire airship.
When Azula says "Trust is for fools", it is pretty clear by that point that she feels really hurt by Zuko betraying her, then Mai, and then especially by Ty Lee. Ty Lee was the only person I saw Azula express remorse of any kind for upsetting, and Azula is pretty much without any emotional support, and she has no emotional training to handle it, especially as a fourteen-year-old left alone to handle an intense level of loss and responsibility.
"The Last Agni-kai" is the name of the music that plays during Azula's and Zuko's fight, it gives the scene such a heavy feeling, it's not an epic fight, it's just sad to see two siblings fighting to the death because of their father
Fun fact about the girl with the cherry pit, she is actually also voiced by Grey DeLisle, who voices Azula. Basically Azula is banishing herself in that scene! 😂
I watched that last season when it aired back in 2007-2008. The end left such an impression on me I still remember it to this day.
I hope the next episode comes quick🤞. 6:45 The White Lotus pulling up to Ba Sing Se and showing everyone why their gangster. Iroh was straighup just breathing and destroyed the wall💪 8:22 Azula's decent into madness is actually sad if you consider how she was raised and how young she is... 13:10 The music with Zuko and Azula's Agni Kai was beautiful and sad because the music emphasizes how sad that moment actually is. Brother and sister fighting in a considered death match. 15:39 Again, the music shows that the final Agni Kai is actually sad because again, it's brother and sister fighting in essentially a death match. Also take note as to how when Zuko always used to fire bend he would grunt etc but now he doesn't do it and how he incorporates the different bending styles into his fire bending. That wide stance he made to deflect Azula's fire blast was pure earth bending stance and that move to knock Azula down was a pure air bending move
I hope the next episode gets uploaded soon!
Laura's face when Azula said "make sure you get in-between the toes" 😆
17:20 I've never seen Magy with so much disgust on her face lol
It's crazy that Iroh, years before this, led the Siege of Ba Sing Se where the Fire Nation Army spent forever trying to breach the Outer Wall, only to end up retreating (yes, partly because Iroh's son died and he lost his resolve, but still). And here, Iroh brings down the wall by himself in like 5 seconds. That's how much the Comet boosts firebenders.
The Agni Kai was ultimately the most tragic because it’s between two siblings, both traumatized massively, albeit in different ways, by their parents. Though it’s probably likely Azula doesn’t love Zuko, I do think Zuko still had some sort of affection or love for Azula in some way.
The ironic thing about the Agni Kai fights in general in this show is that an Agni Kai is supposed to be some sort of honorable duel to decide something. But all the ones we see are fought without honor against Zuko, someone with honor. In the first one we see between Zuko and Zhao, Zuko wins, spares him and in return Zhao attempts to strike Zuko from the back (being stopped by Iroh). The one Zuko faces as a child is against his father, crushing Zuko's spirit before it begins. And the last against Azula, she uses a dirty tactic in order to win. =/
Man Mark Hamil kills it as Ozai in these episodes
The first time I saw this episode I said to myself, "I have a better idea. Let's have Fire Lord Appa.". lol.
The amount of depth in this show is fantastic, Azula is not herself anymore, attacking so wildly and with no technique totally opposite to what she used to be, and getting overwhelmed immediately by Zuko because of that, imagine Katara using blood bending there, of course she'd never, but fight would've been completely different, just wow. This has to be my favorite show ever
Notice how Azula is flailing about the arena, whereas Zuko never budges from his one spot.
The one move of Uncle Iroh. I'm sure they had lots of choreography planned for him, but this is all we get. I'd say the Firebenders in the White Lotus, especially Iroh are invaluable storming Ba Sing Se, since Fire has an absurd advantage to attack and defend at this time. In this way, I think more shots of the sheer power of the city's defending Firebenders should've been showcased, AND Iroh's ability to defend and use his fire in effective and clever ways. Unfortunately, it's the B or C-plot. They also used the B-list animation team for these episodes. With that said, it's their A-game, lol.
There are a couple of videos that analyze the music from the series. It is a study in how to create epic music, how to apply it, and when.
