@ClaudeAlmansi

I just noticed that YT subtitles can be downloaded from the admin interface as .vtt files. And from there I got to the "Using YouTube > Captions > Caption format" help page (1) that also listed WebVTT, with the mention "Initial implementation".

Does this mean that if I learn WebVTT encoding, I'll be able to script audio descriptions, add them to a video, and they'll get spoken out by the browser? Are some browsers already able to do that? Which?

@RichardPCUK

Is there any way to display dual languages on screen at the same time using Webvtt?

@JoeOrtenzi

That's called Audio Descriptions. It's for blind people to understand the content in the video to make it accessible. It is an audio version of content that is not voice/dialogue. That's why it says "Audio Descriptions" in the title. You can't turn it off like you can captions at the moment, but I think there are plans to do so.

@spanishprisoner

@elcrimer captions are a standard in youtube videos for a long time. ever noticed that cc-button buttom right of the videos?

@kiwitotoro

Should This video have depreciated tags like <b and <i ? Also, if I were to make a karaoke video, there is no easy way to highlight individual words during play... Other than that, it sounds good, I also liked the Elephants dream reference there.

@seosemarpit
