@terri6743

We all want to see child abusers in prison, and I’m not a Catholic, but this is a big problem, Constitutionally. Washington State is crossing the line of the 1st Amendment. And what’s to stop the state from demanding lawyer and client confidentiality to be breached, or doctor and patient, or any other breach of confidentiality, for any reason? This is a slippery slope.

@knackfor-y2j

this should be law to All citizens.

@casey1756

Absolutely should not even be a question. If you believe you have a “religious right” to harm children you’re wrong

@BobKatLife

"Whatsoever is lawful in the Commonwealth or permitted to the subject in the ordinary way cannot be forbidden to him for religious uses; and whatsoever is prejudicial to the Commonwealth in their ordinary uses and, therefore, prohibited by the laws, ought not to be permitted to churches in their sacred rites. For instance, it is unlawful in the ordinary course of things or in a private house to murder a child; it should not be permitted any sect then to sacrifice children. It is ordinarily lawful (or temporarily lawful) to kill calves or lambs; they may, therefore, be religiously sacrificed. But if the good of the State required a temporary suspension of killing lambs, as during a siege, sacrifices of them may then be rightfully suspended also. This is the true extent of toleration." --Thomas Jefferson: Notes on Religion, 1776. Papers 1:547 ME, FE = Memorial Edition, Ford Edition.

@Sir_Galahad777

I dont believe it says anywear in the bible that the priest shouldnt tell law enforcement of crimes against children, i know the old testament they had the pharisees but i dont think anyone is above the law, and i do believe the clergy have the obligation to tell law enforcement...we need to protect the children at all cost, just like were trying to protect them from being killed by bad mothers

@newt3695

What about the other churches?. What about the southern Baptist churches? They need these laws as well

@Pam-y7y

It won't happen

@AP-fl8hr

Why wouldnt you report it?

@ScarCaskt

I'm pretty sure God is down with this🙏🏼

@FollowTheTrend-be6qj

THE GOVERNOR IS NOT CATHOLIC

@nellyville1977

Wait until everyone finds out what the Vatican Empire has done.

@fordwk

If this happens it will be one thing after another.

@juryrigged9712

Who trusts Washington Democrat politicians or the Catholic Church when it comes to children’s safety?

@ptarmigan72

Disgusting how the catholic church still priortizes secrecy over protecting raped children!

@Aint1S

Convenient, they say HARM, not ABUSE?! Love the example of going to your 5th grade teacher, but you never told anyone else... C'mon, that's a load and how does that even matter if your teacher didn't trust you!?
Uhh, there has to be some really interesting fine print for this overstepping law... The Catholic Church is going to excommunicate any priest who does it! I'm Baptist, but it looks like Catholics are getting something right.

@barryklarman2720

Clergy live amongst humans and not in the divine sphere. They need to heed this law and the DOJ has no business trying to overturn it putting children at risk.

@ronnyhill3828

I finally agree with Washington on something , it’s about the only thing that actually helps poeple

@stevencunningham2188

The First Amendment has reasonable restrictions for a reason. It's absurd that Priests can hear about the most violent crimes and be fine, but if any of us hear it and don't report it, we can be in serious trouble.

@manofacertainrage856

I'm an atheist. In fact, I'm an atheist that has on occasion had issues with Catholics and others that just can't let things be, so let's just say I'm prejudiced due to experience - call it pattern matching. Having said that, a law that targets priests seems contrary to the 1st Amendment - especially when "harm" on the Left Coast might be something as silly as using the wrong pronoun. Due to their history of covering for ... I understand why priests were called out, but if we're calling out religions that think their laws takes precedence over secular laws, I think you're missing the other big one. Also, a Catholic priest that was excommunicated for reporting real child abuse would probably be welcomed in most churches and might even marry assuming a few things, so it's not the worst thing in the world.

@HEADSPACEnTIMING

This wasn't a law?
