@JimmySailor

30 Carbine has about 70% of the muzzle energy of .223.

A 30 carbine at the muzzle has about as much energy as .223 at 300m.

@richk3552

During the time it was in service there was no common issues body armor other than a not so great steel helmet. However, aluminum wasn’t in great use and carbon steel was more common. Also the aluminum used for the demo appeared to be a lower grade and if high grade hardened aircraft aluminum was used it would have likely not penetrated the first plate.

The M1 30 Gov was good for its time but so many better options today.

@whydoiexist29

I mean I would rather the carbine than a pistol it's also good size too the germans liked it too

@Watchyourhouse

Aluminum is soft and it’s basically pretty thin gauge try to use quarter inch steel plate and let’s see the results

@classicgunstoday1972

Get a car door from a junkyard or a plate of body armor

@thomasbradley2677

A pretty much an exact match of the military stuff?!? Is it a match or not? 😂

@joesummers9864

Where did you find the ammo

@coreymerrill3257

It's more potent than the .357 magnum. Not by huge amounts,but it is . The energy is also more concentrated being as it's a .308 instead of well....357 . There are also heavier sporting loads with 125 grain bullets at a little higher velocity made by buffalo bore . With quality expanding ammo there is no reason this can't cleanly take a deer out to 75 yards with good shot placement. Perhaps as far as 100 yards. It is never going to do what a .30-06 does and it was never meant to. At risk of ruffling some feathers the fricken M2 ball and its contemporaries as used in the M1 Garand and other platforms of that era does not even do what the .30-06 does. The " little" 7.62 NATO m80 ball round is an almost exact ballistic duplicate or the M2 and gives better long range performance. Typical loads are within 6 grains of each other for bullet weight at the extreme ends lf the tolerance spectrum and and the 7.62 NATO has a HIGHER base velocity. So don't give the 30 carbine round a hard time, it's exactly as it should be and the superior M1 Garand isn't the king of the hill. The M14 pattern and BM59 in 7.62 NATO are the Garand actions best offerings as standard.
