Context is everything. If the GOAL is to buy an asset with a long term focus, then what he's saying here is quite appropriate. On the other hand, if your GOAL is to take advantage of short-term fluctuations of an underlying asset then learning and applying technical analysis is critical.

Was looking for analysis on a stock today. The guy started drawing lines on a chart saying it was ready to “break out”. Stock has a payout ratio that’s grown from 100 to 130 percent over the last 2 years on its dividend. Warren is very right here.

I bought Apple stock in 2009 because I was living in Indonesia, and I saw that locals were spending months' worth of salary to buy an iPhone or other Apple products. Not your typical fundamental analysis, but I guess it worked.
