This video does not have any fix, don't waste your time, it is a technical problem with the last update, not only me and you but everyone around the globe. I already spoke with support over the phone twice this morning, it is something that they have to fix not us, they told me it will take some time they are working on it, we will just have to wait. Ignore the video
This is Google screwing us up by making the device obsolete that quick lol.
For those who had factory reset their Chromecast, this is what i have done (set your phone or whatever device you are casting date to 05.03.2025. Then reset your device again & add your device to Google home. Once done you will have your chromecast display in your TV, set the correct date. Now unplug & then plug in the chromecast power lead. It should do its update & work normally.
Same problem here in Brazil, google is doing this to us buy a new one. ;/
I suspect that we can say goodbye to chromecast for good, too many days have passed, and all is silent from Google's end. Not a good sign. This should have been fixed within 24 hours, I believe they are not fixing anything, or there would of not been all this silence with no updates. They want you to buy Google TV Streamer that costs over 100 bucks, I suggest replacing it with some other device because chromecast is dead and buried. Nice job google 😡😡😡

This is global problem with chromecast 2 - 10 of March 2025. Hope Google will fix it soon.
These certificates are a symptom of a simple concept: Planned obsolescence.
They better give us a new one after this fiasco.
Facing issue with Chromecast 2 some error like firmware outdated even after factory reset not able to setup device. It's giving error msg and asking to visit Chromecast page for troubleshooting. Note :This video is not of any use. Do not reset the Chromecast it will not resolve the issue. Wait until google push update for rectification of the issue.
This is the reply from google support team. “We have an ongoing issue affecting our Chromecast 2nd generation and Audio devices stated last Sunday and it may be affecting your chromecast device. You can see an error saying “We couldn't authenticate your Chromecast” but you have nothing to worry about, our engineering team is already aware of the issue and is now working on resolving it. There's also no need for you to perform factory reset on your device as well and we'll make sure to send an update once the issue is fixed”
WTF is google doing to my chromecast by not letting it connect?? This vid won't troubleshoot the new problem that just started happening in the last couple of days.

What a disappointment!!! The title says; what to do if it does not work AFTER factory reset. What do they tell you; do this this this and this, and… if that does not work do a factory reset. COME ON.
"And there you have it!" If you have a Gen 2 Chromecast & this video is useless for troubleshooting "after factory reset", give it a thumbs down 😊. The issue that broke it is caused by an expired certificate, & that factory reset "after factory reset" may have triggered the wrong firmware update.
