I’ve been obsessed with reactions to this show. It’s not only a litmus test for reactors being able to read a narrative and think through the premise in real time, but also reminds me of things I didn’t quite realize when I first watched it. These have been great reactions, and the thing I didn’t realize I missed upon my first watch was what the real twist was in the first episode. I did know going in that the show was about going to work and not remembering any of it. Everyone thinks that the big twist in the first episode is that Mark’s boss is also his next door neighbor, who is keeping tabs on him. But the twist is the realization that Mark isn’t crying because of his work, but that he chose severance because of the reason he’s crying. It seems so obvious that severance must be traumatic, and carry over to your “real” life - even if you can’t consciously remember any of it. But the real gut punch is the realization that the show is about the innies, who are literally living in hell. This is a show that’s best not to binge, as the more you think through the implications of severance, the more wild the possibilities are. Seeing Helly leave and then come back from both perspectives in the first two episodes basically tells you everything you need to know about the situation, and where it might go. Like, yeah, they could be committing war crimes. They could be a standing army of sleeper cells. They could be doing drone strikes on their own families… The premise is TERRIFYING.
Its so fun to listen to your thoughts on the episode as you are watching the show. You have some great insights! Also loved to hear your comments on the previous episode at the beginning of this video. Keep 'em coming!
The episode title "Half Loop" (typo in video title lol) is also the name of the road on the address petey gave him
Half loop was the street name of the green house
Another wonderful reaction. Sometimes we just need a sick day - just because, right? ;) I promise it won't be long before you find yourself needing to watch the next episode right after completing the previous.
Great reaction. I love some of your theories. Looking forward to the next reaction to 1X3.
Irving's dirty fingernails might indicate he's a night gardener. Is that even a thing?
Mark's reasoning is flawed because it is forced labor. And yeah forced self-imprisonment can happen. For instance, handcuffing yourself to a radiator next to a bunch of water because you were on a diet only for your future self to really regret it 10 days later when you're starving to death. Now imagine a hallucination of your past self saying you can never leave because they decided this course of action for your present self.
