Knowledge is not enough to prevent genocide. Strong leadership or bravery is required. Seeing it happening and standing back out of cowardice or denial will not stop genocide. The society must be brave enough to stand up and protect those being targeted, and effect change to reverse the trend.
It baffles me that there are people who defend genocide and justify it
Hi! As an historian, I have to admit... Great video to explain such a complex matter! But if it's possible, I would like to add one small detail, that in the video didn't really got a long timing: the concept of completely erasing the victims from history, not only phisically, but their culture as well. In fact, if you look for example at the Jews' genocide in the 40s or the Armenians' one during WWI, you can clearly see that after the genocide, the dominant class ALWAYS tried not only to fake they never existed, but they also tried to cancel their names/surnames, cancel cult places (like churches), cancel cultures or whatever book a writer of that ethnicity belonged to... So it is not only a phisical erasing, but usually during genocide it's also a cultural one: that's why the word "genocide" it's a VERY heavy one and MUST be used very carefully!!! Except that... Excellent video!! Keep the good work going, pal!! :)
What an interesting time to post this
I feel like one of the most scary things about a genocide is how easy it is for believe in what they are doing. The reason they do it is because they so desparately believe that genocide will solve everything.
The fact that there are multiple attempted genocides ongoing in the world right now is absolutely disgusting.
Dear YouTube Community, we created this video around May to August 2023. It is not based on actual events.
The timing of this video is perfect . I think everyone needs to watch this .
Unfortunately this kind of early warning system loses its effectiveness when people minimize everything below stage 9 as "not actually genocide".
False claims of being victims of the target group I think should be stressed more. It happened in every major genocide early and is probably the strongest driver of public sentiment towards acceptance of the atrocity.
Genocide watch is a very accurate name. They just watching
A great video that stands alone on its own merit, but also dropped at such a timely manner.
When a 5 minute video like this feels like a 15 minute one you know you did good.
The fact that the Palestinians in the west bank are in the 8 stap and Gaza is a case were we see all the stages happening in the same time is horrifying
This should be in standard curriculum. I had a teacher who had us do a project on genocide in middle school. It was not required for her to teach us about it, but she still did. I'll never forget that project as long as i live.
"But do you condemn Yellow People?" —Purple Guy
Just to add one point: Most people who can do something, thinks they are a decently strong willed, and relatively good person, and will never become part of the perpetrator participating in such atrocities...This can be a dangerous notion to held on to, as this has happened over and over throughout history. The mind en masse can be easily manipulated over time and combined that with a strong "certainty" that: "I'm an rational good person, whose actions can never be that bad", that's the hubris ingredient that binds everything together and brings about the horrors in this video. (great illustrations btw)
This is so simple and yet so horrifying at the same time
This is so astronomically important. I love you for making this and posting it.
