I use the Victorinox Compact based on your recommendation! It’s been my favorite knife. I use it way more than I ever used my larger “trendy” $400 folder. It’s great with the scissors for beard grooming or other endless tasks. The “single” tool has a can and bottle opener combined which saves space making the tool slimmer and light, and constantly having a pen is also something I use much more than expected. The blade just stays forever-sharp and works amazing on zip ties. The parcel hook with nail file gets used way more than you’d think. If you’re looking for the perfect place to carry it… put it in the watch pocket of your jeans or slacks, it rides above your pockets and keeps the knife and your phone separated and keeps both from scratching. Great place to carry a GREAT lightweight knife! Thanks for the suggestion two years ago!
Giving the swiss knife fire starting capabilities was a genius move! Well done 👏🏻
My EDC kit is a small flashlight, phone, pocket knife if allowed, Bic lighter, inexpensive but stylish wrist watch, and a small can of pepper spray if allowed. I live in the NYC area and theses things would be nice to have if in a building or subway during a blackout. I consider my light the most important of these tools.
I always add my daily complement of medications (AM and PM) in the off chance of forgetting to take them before I head out, or if I happen to need to stay overnight unexpectedly away from home. These have saved me many times. I use small ziploc type bags labelled AM PM. I like packing my bullet space pen. Great update!
Love how you need your Swiss army knife several times a day. I haven't once used mine in several years - but I do go and hold it after seeing one of your videos - nodding sagely that I am prepared.
For the first time in 8 months since I bought it, I have used my handbag torch! It’s a bit bigger than yours but not by much. My brother was changing the timing settings on my elderly Dad’s equally elderly boiler and dropped one of the timing pins. His phone torch was basically useless, so I grabbed my little edc handbag torch and it was found!!!! I feel so vindicated, especially as I also used my mini Iwalk power bank to charge my phone later that same day, for the first time! It’s all coming together…xx
I’ve been looking forward to this video for a while, as the original one really inspired my EDC. Some additional items I carry in my wallet pouch are lip balm, a folded microfiber cloth, a tailors tape printout that I laminated, some floss, a low profile finger nail clipper, and 10 feet of nylon twine. Thanks for the upload Jon!
Thanks for the great video. I have watched so many EDC videos, and what has always amazed me is that nobody carries a simple measuring tape. I use a tailors tape - it's extremely light and gives me a measuring distance of 1.5 metres. I use it more than my pocket knife, which everyone considers the basic EDC gadget.
Seeing how good you are at packing out these kits that are no bigger than they need to be, I would actually be extremely interested to see how you would pack out a compact medical kit specifically with only the necessities for saving a life. Basics like tourniquet, hemostatic gauze, chest seals, compression bandage, mylar blanket, etc. I think keeping a kit like this in your car is always a great idea, but it’s the kind of thing you (hopefully) don’t need often, so not taking up much space would be a massive benefit.
I keep a rite in the rain sliver of paper with each med traced out and the dose + expiration, then I keep that paper in my small pill carrier with me. But writing on the lid is genius!
For fire lighting, I find a mini BIC lighter more practical for everyday use. My EDC contains whatever I need for 24 hours., therefore my medicine requirements are less. But I do carry a couple of band aids. I like to carry my wallet separately, even though I use my iPhone exclusively these days for shopping. I don't carry a multi tool, I find a Victorinox is sufficient for 90% of simple tasks, and I use it several times a day for opening packaging. The duct tape solution is a good option, I have the same, and has come in handy on several occasions for quick fixes. Your version of the EDC is a good solution, and very easily modifyable to suit various needs. Good work.
You have a lot of stuff in that bag, I have no use for some of the stuff, but your presentation and ideas to reduce space is outstanding. This gave me ideas how to reduce the size of stuff I do want to carry! Thanks!
I have most of these items already but never knew how to organize them. Never thought about the difference between a pouch that has a side zipper to a top zipper. I have been using a edc pouch that has three slots on the back. It's a great piece of kit on its own. I hold my cards in a card holder and then the rest of my kit somewhere else. Only things that go on the back are my Victorinox Spartan, a Bic Lighter, and a small flashlight, which was once a MagLite Solitaire until my friend lost it. This is a great setup and very compact. Going to try this out for myself, cheers!
Absolutely loving this channel, this sort of thing is right up my street and is a good way to stay organised.
one hint to the Jetsetter: i just had to leave mine at the indian airport security, so its not always safe for carry on traveling. for more than 50 other flights it was fine , but not i have to get a new one . from my point of view I'd add some zip ties and microcord, which saves my life quit often. pleas go on with your channel , i appreciate your videos and style
those hand wipes can also be tushy wipes and fire starter. 3 in 1 item - Great kit altogether.
One thing I use a lot is a small nail scissor, which combines very well with a multitool without scissors!
A consideration when carrying driving license with payment cards, the driving license reveals your address. Which can make it easier for thieves using your payment card. Since they can prove a (presumably) correct billing address. It’s not really as black and white as that for most payment processes. But I limit the time my driving license and payment cards travel together for this reason. In the U.K. there is no requirement for British nationals to carry a driving license when driving.
I actually carry soap and towels (very very small ones) in my kit. You can buy cotton towels compressed into tiny tablets that expand in water. Soap can be bought in thin paper-like sheets. So I put those into a tiny ziplock and have two cotton towels like that along. It was just a fun thing to add but the soap works surprisingly well. You can usually find some water. Mostly for fun really, I doubt I'll use them heavily.
