@SabbaticalTommy

My hair has never looked better. Hope you enjoyed this tour of Paramaribo as much as I did. If you're Surinamese/Dutch, I hope you also enjoyed me butchering your language. I'll try Sranan Tongo next 😉

PS. I made a mistake writing the price of the water bottle in the Chinese supermarket. It was supposed to be $0.70 if I remember correctly. I've gotten like 100 comments mentioning this so I just wanted to say, don't worry, they didn't scam me!

@rih2370

When i was young i lived in Holland and had a Surinamese friend and his mother used to cook for me all the time. I was the only white kid in their house and they thought it was really funny that i was so obsessed with Surinamese food. Now i live in Eastern Europe and i still sometimes think about surinamese food...broodje pom, saoto soep, bloedworst, broodje bakkeljauw, and zoutvlees with bami were my favorite.

@DroneInternational

Tommy, your Dutch is very understandable for someone who just started learning (and that's what speaking languages is all about imo)! If one day you find yourself in South Africa you'll see the big similarities

@t1mmy13

Oh man, as a dutch person, this episode was so good. I completely lost it when you cut to your confused face and the translator thing saying "vaak" in dutch :D Really impressive how fast your learn languages! Honestly all dutch you spoke in this episode I could understand

@dutchrookie7556

Surinamese are really warm hearted people. Loyal, polite & their accent when they talk Dutch is priceless! Their hospitality is unreal as well.

@benjismith593

Suriname seems waaaaay chill. Plus much safer. Food looks amazing! Plus everyone seems to speaks English. Videos like this are invaluable.

@charlmorton922

I'm an Afrikaans speaker and I could understand Tommy's Dutch. Great episode!

@marjoriesantos

I love Suriname, went there many times and never had a problem. The people there are so nice, the food, everything, just a lovely country. ❤

@gavintjoktotaroeno935

I am from suriname and im glad you met mister Eddie at the chinese "consulate". He is one of the if not the most genuine surinamer you will ever meet.

@InmyWorld_Marcia

What an experience. It’s so refreshing to see how friendly and polite the people are. Definitely going to include Suriname visit on my next trip to my homeland Guyana.

@WhereJodyAt

Your Dutch is solid and with a funny accent! I love it. I spent 4 years in Amsterdam during grad school and met so many Surinamese - the more I heard about the country the more I was utterly fascinated. So glad you travelled here and uploaded this!

@robertjleter

Thanks for bringing such a positive impression of Suriname to the world

@maureenalder8905

What an interesting and diverse country...Loving Suriname 🇸🇷..you pick great countries Tommy ❤ 🇬🇧

@thelone_traveller3754

I am from India (Bihar) and most of the people who were duped by the colonial British and were sent to Suriname were from my state or neighboring states. The Roti with chicken is a very famous cuisine here. in the northern part of India, people prefer Roti over Rice. It's my dream to visit Suriname and meet people who still carry our tradition even after a lot of Exploitation.

@gracedelprado1153

So cool to see my country being shared so well on YouTube😍

@blususpect

Sabbatical keep doing your thing man! Your inspiring us youth! Best channel on YT 💎!!!

@Inayah-jy8qb

you picked up Dutch very quick, its very good for being few days in Surinam. Good pronounciation, you sound like a Dutchman, I could understand you mostly. You should definitely try out Bara, Baka Bana, Pom. The pepper is very popular in our cuisine, it has a unique taste

@aleksir.8380

Such a fascinating country, a little bit of everything from all over the world.

@chrisoreilly3134

This has now become one of my favorite channels, especially because you're exploring countries not alot of people are familiar with. But I am one who reads about all these wonderful countries, especially Suriname. Respect my man, visit South Africa soon... LOL you should hit the ABC's next though

@oamsingh2008

Forks are for foreigners...lol. You are always smiling bro which makes your videos more pleasant. I am Guyanese but never went to Suriname. Thanks for this video !
