Eben maybe went a bit too far in his early years, but nowadays he's the ultimate enforcer. He definitely intimidates opposition and plays hard without going too far. Will go down as one of the all time great Springboks in my opinion

For all his aggression Eben has only copped three yellow cards in his career (two in tests and one in elite rugby). He knows how to control his aggression and where to draw the line

Not a fan of this faux macho collar grabbing personally, but Etzebeth knows where to draw the line, he's not an idiot. He just likes to wind the opposition up. He plays hard but within the rules.

Notice that Eben doesn't resort to fists, even after having his face gouged a couple of times, although if he'd got a proper hold on that Scots player, I doubt Eben would have stopped until that Scot was on the ground. Eben simply asserts his dominance over the opposition without resorting to brutal violence. Also note how many players like to gang up on Eben.
