You remind me of a physics professor I had in college when I was studying to be an electrical engineer. He knew all these out-there theories before the internet was what it is today and after class you could or even during it sometime you could get him to go off on a tangent and we would speak for hours. He was absolutely convinced that humanity suffered from amnesia and that there was a catastrophe they wiped out advanced civilizations .
The antikythera mechanism deserves a dedicated episode all to itself. There was a guy in modern times that tried to replicate it and ran into a serious hiccough when he discovered an odd number to one of the gears. A "half" number, to be precise. After much deliberation and many mathematical computations later he worked out that it was used as a divisible for the exact timing of the moon rotations and how to predict eclipses. The trick was a tiny switch within the mechanism that told another gear to rotate at a different rate, slowing this one gear down to (what equated as) the exact half tooth needed. How do you make half a tooth on a gear? The ancients knew long before we did
A. J. You truly have a great gift for these programs. Please don’t stop, they are way too enjoyable. I’m 76 and hung around for a long time and these programs are in my top 5 things I’ve ever experienced and I’m considered a critic by my entire family.
This comment is more about the Why Files series than just this episode. When I first found the series I was impressed. This is better than almost anything I find on commercial TV and enjoy watching each show. Here is to hoping that this continues for years to come.
I can't believe how much funnier hecklefish has become since this show's inception. I used to think he was annoying, but he's evolved into something so great
Huge fan of WF. My favorite thing about this channel is that you present the idea, and also present the skepticism. Here's to keeping it unbiased.
Being a YouTube junky, I have heard all of these stories before, but watching them on this channel I am friggin glued to my screen. You’re the best man.
Why Files is getting way popular, this episode is currently 14 hours old here in Australia with 60,000 likes & over 700,000 views. being one of the best channels on YouTube it's good to see.
The worst part of this show is when it ends. More entertaining than anything Hollywood has to offer.
I really enjoy watching these episodes. They have helped me through the rough time I am going through with the loss of my son on October 12, 2023, just four days before his 30th birthday. Thank you for everything you do. Continue doing what you love and what we are here to enjoy. Wayne.
Why Files is literally the only YT channel with episodes I wish were longer.
Even if it's just for half an hour or so a week, these videos lift my depression. You have no idea how much that means to me. So, thanks.
Awesome episode! There is a natural reactor in a cave in Gabon Africa. The cave would flood the water would act as a moderator and the nuclear reaction would begin. The heat produced then boil the water away and the reaction would stop. This process repeated for millions of years resulting in the depleted uranium ore. Science rocks!
I think you undersold the Antykythera device. It's a marvelous piece of engineering for its time. It's almost annoying that people are let down when they find out it has nothing to do with aliens.
You’re providing a vital human service on this channel. Showing folks how to move past internal biases and think more critically, while staying open minded. It’s brilliant.
With all the business idiots babbling on about nothing throughout YouTube, it’s wonderful to know that there is people (myself included)that actually want to learn , and think, theorize etc. it was inevitable a channel such as this would dmerge. Well done AJ. I’d love to meet you someday. Thank you !
A dreary grey Friday morning in the South of England. Thankfully A. J, Hecklefish, and the team have delivered their usual high standard to chase away the blues, or rather, the greys, with wisdom and humour in pursuit of our strange, hidden history, which is coming to light thanks to the likes of the WHY FILES!!! Thanks Guys. 🙏
"Volume 1" - AJ is just teasing us at this point and we 100% are for it.
