@purplebushie

I'd like to imagine that MARETU is an incredibly upbeat and happy person irl, so much so that no one would ever guess that he writes these dark and depressing songs

I feel like that would be really funny

@kaikonokara5306

maretu who hurt u

@tachi6000

MARETU is like the lovechild of Kikuo and UtataP.

@XxSourPickle

my dog is actively scared of this song. his head will randomly jerk twoards the speakers and he'll look spooked and he'll demand cuddles

@色の神様

I think this song is about how foolish it is to be afraid of death or how being Afraid of suicide shouldn’t be a thing.

“I was dead before I was born”

Which is true. She’s just saying that we are all going to return to how it was before we were born

@thiccfishsticc5785

you know shit just got real when they start writing kanji in pixels

@bea7555

i think the little beeps that start on 03:25 are like heart beats slowly stopping as the person dies

@emmsabbidge2612

When i saw the first lyric i knew it was an "oh. oH. OH." kinda song.

@Mama_Monomi

My theory for this song is that it's about someone coping with the idea of death and just generally making death sound less scary, alot of the lyrics remind me of the thoughts I had about my constant thoughts on how scary being dead sounds and things I used to calm myself down/cope with death anxiety for example saying that being dead might not be that scary because I'll just feel the same way i did before i was born. I think the lyrics about not being scared anymore could show that the things they're using to cope are working to some extent. The lines about wanting someone to kill this moster that can change my very being with a single touch could be a reference to how sudden death is and how drastically it can change peoples lives. The lines "be it plesant or unpleasant you just have to stomach it" could be about no matter how scary death is you kinda just have to deal with it because its inevitable. I'm not completely sure how the lines about sleeping would apply to this theory, it might be a reference to how some people die suddenly in their sleep or how alot of people use terms like eternal rest as a reference for being dead🧐 the line about an empty shell could also be a reference to how dead bodies are seen as body's with no soul, therefore empty. The lines "it wouldn't be so hard, it wouldn't hurt, and it wouldn't be scary anymore. Right?" Could also be things that the singer is saying to help themselves cope Like "life wouldn't be hard after death, you wouldn't be able to experience pain once your dead, after your dead there's no reason to be scared anymore since you already got it out of the way, right?"

@revengearchri7137

fact:theres a bunch of words in the background in the I miss you part when you turn it bright as hell

@nvm_everland2908

I really love how the lyrics "Since I was dead before I was born" and "it's only going back to how things used to be" switch between major and minor, it just fits so perfectly. Those type of songs are my favorite.

@cswag6768

I find myself jolting a bit whenever the girl in the bg says "ah" ITS SO CREEPY

@rorams

i rly want to give maretu a hug they seem sad

@sullenhigh

i feel sorry for maretu he used miku and gumi to produce music and they took most the spotlight. i recently bought his coin locker baby album and theres one instrumental song on there that's called rational time and its one of the best guitar pieces i've heard in awhile.

@FreedomT1subs

Just when I was about to translate something cute/upbeat Maretu is all like, "LOL THINK AGAIN." That being said, this was fun to do.

@s_mai8970

The start to this song and the occasional "ah" in the background is VERY creepy. 💀

But as always, Maretu gives out the best songs. 😂

@toastsandwichh5680

Creepy, dark and weird...

...I love it

@maggies.2037

I am currently discovering a genre of music I didn't think could exist...

@adelladesuh7609

I feel like this is a song of a murderer. Though the translation is "Since I was dead before I was born", the Japanese lyrics don't have a clear subject. They don't say who exactly was dead before they were born, and feels more like a general human fact stating thing. And there's the part about "these painful feelings and dangerous thoughts I'm having of you", "These lumps of rotten emotions I still feel for you", so I'm guessing yandere...? I love you, and also I want to kill you kind of thing? I think the protagonist still has some guilt about their own desires because they call it "a monster". Then they accept it(Be it pleasant or unpleasant you just have to stomach it), and kidnap this "you"(Sleepy? Tired? Then go ahead and take a good rest. Because its while you sleep that you're taken(it isn't necessarily they, because there's no subject for that too)). The protagonist tells the victim that it's just going back to how it used to be, and they don't need to be scared, it isn't going to hurt, and so on. I also thought the "ah"s in the background was the victim's voice.
