The closest I came to dieing, during the Gulf War, was when we ran over a dead camel laying in the middle of the road. Riding in a CUCV, at night, at about 50 miles a hour! Hit it dead center, flew through the air! Landed on all fours, bounced a few times, pulled over and stopped to try to figure out what just happened. Woulda been real bad if we had rolled over...

I was in the Kharkiv printing house when it got hit with 4 S-300 Missiles back in 2022.
That was the "closest" I got during my time there.
Other than the constant arty/grads/mortars which  regularly blew out windows and walls. 
Shit was wild.
