I really don't get it. First everyone was complaining about having only 2-3 yrs of software updates and now that manufactures are providing 5-7 yrs of updates, why are we like 'Do we really need this many years of software update?'.
Bro comparing ported one ui 7 with stock one ui 7, big brains !!
I'm still using the S9+ as my secondary device. Even after all these years, I still enjoy the vibes I get whenever I touch it because of its sleek and curved form. But after all these years, it appears that my amoled screen has screen burn difficulties and is little laggy. I appreciate your hard effort.
7 years of software support is really great. You can buy a 2 year old flagship (unused) at a discount and it'll remain 'new' for 5 years because of the software. You can even give the phone to your family members after 3 to 4 years and they'll too appreciate the flagship level hardware.
I'm still using S9+, bought it brand new on 30-Sept-2018 for 73k, apart from 5G which is a must in 2025, I still feel that this phone is absolutely perfect. I wish I bought higher storage varient, 64GB is not enough in 2025, using it with 128GB SD card which forces me to use a single sim card. Android 10 and One UI 2.5 is still fine for me, kinda became a part of life since last 6 years. I replaced 2 batteries till now. It still works like a charm for basic tasks since I don't do anything heavy. One of the best phone I ever purchased, and I still will keep it for some more time as it is still going strong. I have even used s24 ultra of last year of my brother, which is a great phone, but still I feel that phones haven't changed a lot since this S9 Plus, there is no reason to upgrade if you are a normal user as mostly every flagship can last a decade. I wish this S9 plus support me till s29 ultra. I will upgrade then, after a decade.
Lumia 950XL used for 5 years. iPhone SE gen-1 used for 6 years. Realme X3 Superzoom used for 4 years. Nokia E72 and Sony Ericsson W550i still using for playing old games sometimes. Samsung A54 two years and running fine. (Still have Lumia with me).
Hi techwiser, as a rom developer and daily user it is great for you to check this out. These roms help revive our phones from laggy and old software and give it new life. All the devices I own from phones to tablets to smartwatches all are over 5 years old and modding and giving it a fresh plate feels great. Hope you make more like this. Love ❤
Take all of this with a pinch of salt as this is not the official software and just a custom (correction : port rom)rom. Official versions of software are heavily tested. Yes, they will consume more battery and performance will be hindered but, this software update thing matters more to people who do not change their phones for 5-6 years , in my opinion. The biggest advantage is the security patches, rather than new features. Someone who cares about new features will anyways end up upgrading their phone. In a world where cyber security is becoming more crucial day by day, security patches take precedence over features.
as a custom rom dev, we even managed to boot ui7 on 3gb ram and its more smoother than many samsung devices available yet
my father has a galaxy J6(2018) and it with 0 software updates , still running like a gem, the great display offered in that time, still running the apps just fine , no battery issue or low backup. he just DID NOT UPDAte THE PHONE JUST EVEN ONCE
I'm using Oneplus 5T, a 7+ years old phone. And it's the only phone I have. And it's working quite smoothly. The only issue is: its battery lasts for 5-6 hours only.
I'm still using a Pixel 3a, which is working fine, just a bit slow. I have replaced the battery twice, and just upgraded to a Pixel 8 Pro. I do value software updates a lot, because I use my phones for a long time, so I don't believe extended software support is a bad thing (specially if the phone is designed for it). In the example you used, you had to flash an Android version that was never meant to run on that phone. Of course it isn't going to run well. My dad for example has an IPhone XR running IOS 18 which it IS meant to run, and it works just fine. I don't believe you guys approached this question the best way posible honestly
Not everyone uses these high end tech on smartphones, many of us use this for basic tasks for which a phone is designed like calling, social media, YouTube consumption, UPI transactions, and for taking pictures Not everyone is into gaming & AI
5 years os upgrades are minimum requirement for flagships and 7 years is good to have, it will run good in last 2 years if companies trim features
Weird take. You cannot install ported software on a device that was not supposed to get the update and conclude that we don't need longer updates. It is still needed for people who don't want to have the latest and greatest.
Two months ago, I switched from S9 to S24 Plus. Now I will try this on my S9, which is still working fine except battery.
I used to experiment a lot with custom ROMs and kernels on my Poco X3 Pro and Poco F1—flashed everything from OxygenOS to One UI, especially around three years ago. But in the end, both phones ended up with dead motherboards 😂. These days, in 2025, no one's really talking about or doing that stuff anymore. Custom ROMs and kernels have become way too risky for phones now.
Using a Redmi Note 8 with Evolution X ROM since 2023. Bought it in June 2020. Works smoothly. Funnily, I bought it for ₹10,999 and am now getting an exchange offer of ₹11,499 against an S25.
It depends? Literally bro? You said it's ported one ui 7 if it was official Samsung would surely add support for previous features 8:38
