The Fujian, the Chinese Navy's third aircraft carrier, has returned to its shipyard after the third sea trial. The short intervals and the increasing length of test voyages and between them indicate highly positive results.
I will keep making more videos about Fujian and latest Chinese weapons, please subscribe to my channel and turn on notifications. Thanks.
After the sea trial, a few combat aircraft models can be seen on the flight deck of the Fujian, including the stealthy J-35 fighter, the older J-15, the KJ-600 early warning aircraft. Interesting a JL-10 naval trainer variant is also spotted, which might become the main trainer jet for the Fujian.
After 25 days at sea, the Fujian returned to Shanghai. While the publicly available traffic control notice did not specify the ship as being the Fujian, many believe the phrase “large ship” indicated it is the carrier. Commercial satellite images and photos circulating on social media also appear to confirm the return of the carrier.
The Fujian completed the eight-day first sea trial from May 1 to May 8, then quickly followed by a 20-day second sea trial from May 23 to June 11. The third trial is also not far behind from the second one. It appears the Fujian has been running smoothly avoiding lengthy fixes in shipyard between the trials.
Each trial was longer than the previous one, indicating that the entire sea trial phase is going very smoothly.
With each sea trial, new and more tests were conducted except landing the aircraft on the deck. When basic systems such as the propulsion system and the electric system are validated, more complicated shipborne equipment as well as aircraft are expected to conduct tests. It is not known if the electromagnetic catapults have been tested or not.
If not, it is expected the fourth trial will conduct the launching and landing of combat aircraft. And then the next big question is when the J-35 stealth fighter will land on the Fujian.
