No denying that pistol squats take a hella-lot of mobility, BUT…!
…they’re also a skill,
which means simply having sufficient strength and mobility isn’t enough…
you need to practice the actual movement, feel where you need to shift your body weight, how you need to position your torso etc etc etc. And actually practicing the skill in this way, is the perfect way to build the strength and mobility that they need. Win win!
So if you’d like to be able to do an unassisted pistol squat, these are the progressions I advise you to work through!
This isn’t a one-session progression, these are versions of a pistol squat to gradually progress your way through over time, when one version becomes easy, THEN you move on to the next.
Maybe I should create a pistol squat programme 🤔 Fancy it?!
