Executive director of Women Enabled International Stephanie Ortoleva makes an impassioned plea for citizens of the world not to ignore or discount the worth of disabled women—who are a valuable part of any society.
“Women with disabilities are 20 percent of the world’s women, and we can’t afford to leave that many women behind. Our world needs all of the brilliant minds, the hard workers, and the thoughtful leaders we can find, because we have so many problems to confront as a world. And so you can’t leave one-fifth of the women out of that work.” –Stephanie Ortoleva
The Ford Foundation, a social justice philanthropy, presents the #FutureIsHers, an in-depth, multimedia content series celebrating the innovators, risk-takers, and change-makers we proudly support and the impact they’ve had on the lives of women and girls everywhere. While the challenges women and girls face are many, they’re rising up around the world—rewriting the rules, redefining power, and reimagining what equality looks like. With their collective action, social change is possible: The future is hers.
