Ripley has a history dating back to Norman times and the Mary Magdelen church about 1160.
This walk around Ripley is 12kms and lasts approximately 2h30mins. The walk starts at Ripley Green and leads to Walsham Lock. At the Lock we follow the towpath in the Guildford direction (South).
At Newark Lock we can clearly see the ruins of the Priory and continue along the towpath to the footbridge just after Papercourt Lock.
From here we head across fields to Papercourt Lake and return to Ripley.
There are many variations to the route we have chosen which are illustrated on Ordnance Survey Map 145.
Very muddy in winter and graded as Easy.
