Last week deputies were on patrol in the area of I-80E and the Maple St exit when they made a traffic enforcement stop. During the stop a narcotics detection K9 was utilized to conduct an exterior search of the car. Once the K9 alerted to potential narcotics in the vehicle, the K9 searched the interior of the car. During the search of the vehicle the K9 alerted, and the deputies located the suspected methamphetamine.
This is a fantastic demonstration of the use and value of police K9 units. The capability of a dog to detect narcotics from outside of a vehicle is a force multiplier when it comes to patrol deputies being able to conduct effective narcotics enforcement on patrol. Great work done by all patrol deputies involved.
