Hi everyone, I am Nidhi, final year physiotherapy student and with me is Smruti Sikta Mishra, final year occupational therapy student. We both are students of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities, Delhi University, New Delhi.
In this video we intend to share our knowledge and experience of the respective fields gained through clinical postings in hospitals.
While seeking admission into the courses, students do not have a very vivid idea of what the fields entail. This happens more so in the case of occupational therapy. Here, we have tried to summon our knowledge relevant for a beginner to be able to analyse and make a choice between the fields and also decide whether or not they are truly ready to pursue a rehabilitative career path.
Physiotherapy, PT and occupational therapy, OT both are rehabilitative approaches and have few key differences between them. To highlight those differences and also shed light on the similarities of the two has been our goal with this video.
We know that a fresh batch of students awaits commencement of college. We hope that we are able to equip you with the foresights that you should have.
Physiotherapy focuses on restoring movement, strength, and function through exercises and physical techniques. It often targets injury recovery and mobility improvement. Occupational therapy, however, emphasizes helping individuals perform daily activities and achieve independence, often using adaptive tools or modifying tasks and environments.
Both therapies aim to improve a patient's quality of life and functionality. They work in rehabilitation settings, collaborate on patient care, and share goals of promoting independence, though their approaches and specific focuses differ.
