Nobody really knows what happened before the Great Blackout of ´37. All recorded data has been lost. Or so we thought. Our outpost in the Delta3-System has recently intercepted transmissions on lower rarely used kreno-frequencies, which strangely correlate with architectural log-files of the Old Society preserved for mere archival use and heretofore rendered useless beyond that. We do not know who sent out these transmissions or who they were meant for. Nevertheless the data gives us reason to believe that we have some fractures of the world before the Great Blackout at our hands.

These fragments - or floes, as we got used to call them here in the lab - offer glimpses into a world that has been and is no more; and to observe and examine the data regarding similarities, deviations and contrasts to our current world is a rather fascinating endeavor. There are elements in the code, which strike the contemporary observer as odd and irritating. And yet these same passages seem to be in harmonious ease with other elements that we recognize as part of our current world, elements that seemed to have survived the passage of time. In that regard they are following a certain inner logic that appears to be simultaneously strikingly obvious and puzzlingly enigmatic.
