Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Charts and Graphs - Screenshots in Excel.
Welcome to another episode of the MrExcel netcast! In this chapter, we will be discussing the use of screenshots in Excel charts and graphs. As always, this episode is sponsored by Excel-XL, the ultimate tool for all your Excel needs.
As many of you know, I am a big fan of Techsmith's Snagit and Camtasia Studio. In fact, I have used Camtasia Studio to produce over 1200 episodes of the MrExcel netcast. But with the release of Office 2010, Microsoft has added some new functionality that allows users to take screenshots directly in Word or Excel, similar to what Snagit does.
To access this feature, simply go to the Insert tab and click on Screenshot. You will see a list of all the available windows, including PowerPoint, webpages, and even the Camtasia recording toolbar. However, I have found that the most useful option is the Screen Clipping tool. This allows you to select a specific area of the screen and insert it directly into your Excel sheet.
Let me show you how it works. First, switch to the screen that you want to take a screenshot of. In this example, I am on a webpage. Then, go back to Excel and click on Insert, followed by Screen Clipping. You will see that Excel automatically goes to the last application that was open, in this case, the webpage. You can then use your mouse to select the specific area you want to capture and it will be inserted as an object in your Excel sheet.
But that's not all! Excel also has a variety of picture tools that you can use to enhance your screenshot. This eliminates the need to switch to Snagit for simple edits like adding arrows or text. So next time you need to take a quick screenshot, remember to use the Screen Clipping tool in Excel. Thanks for watching and be sure to tune in next time for more tips and tricks from MrExcel."
