Russia's "Dead Hand," officially known as "Perimeter," is a automated nuclear control system designed to ensure a retaliatory strike in the event of an attack. Activated during crises, it monitors for signs of a nuclear assault—such as seismic activity, radiation, and communication loss. If such indicators are detected and no response is received from leadership, the system can autonomously launch a counterstrike, guaranteeing mutual destruction. Though its current operational status remains classified, it is believed to still be functional as a deterrent.
