Assigning beyond use dates for compounded preparations is complex and sometimes misunderstood. Non-sterile and sterile preparations have different criteria for assigning beyond use date. Participants will gather an understanding of the factors affecting product stability and the requirements for maintaining the stability of a drug product.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of the program, the participants should be able to:
(1) Define and explain beyond use date (BUD) and stability studies.
(2) Compare and contrast stability criteria for non-sterile and sterile preparations.
(3) Identify factors that affect stability of compounded products.
(4) Explain the differences between stability, instability and incompatibility.
